St Leger hat trick

Postby nferro9925 » Sat Dec 09, 2006 1:14 am

Yes, this is 3 months late, :D but
can anyone remember a stallion siring the first 3 places in a classics race anywhere?
Galileo sired Sixiteis Icon, The Last Drop, & Red Rocks 1-2-3 in the St Leger S. in Sept.

Don't know the exact races, but I'd bet Sunday Silence had done this multiple times given the number of his get that race in Japan.

Sadler's Wells did it in the Englisch Oaks only a few years ago.

Sorry, I just write from my mind and must search for the year.

Well, I just researched and my mind did not take me wrong:

Epsom Oaks 2001: won by Imangine, 2nd and 3rd also sired by SW.

In the "History of the Derby-Stakes" (by R. Morimer) I found:

Epsom Derby 1803: first three sired by Sir Peter Teazle,
Epsom Derby 1866: first three sired by Stockwell.

Sunday's had quite a few stakes he's sired the first 3 finishers in just in the last 12 months alone. The last Classic he did a sweep in was the 2005 Satsuki Sho (JPN 2k Guineas) with Deep Impact, Six Sense and Admire Japan. He was also the sire of the winner and 3rd place horse in the 2005 JPN Derby as well as the grandsire of the 2nd place horse (a son of Special Week, son of Sunday).

Thanks everyone! Parlo - don't you just love it when your mind pays attention and doesn't embaress you?

I thought Sunday Silence would be in there, and I hadn't heard of
anyone of late doing this. Just neat little tidbits to trot out at the holiday parties!

Thanks Sam,

Didn't Sunday Silence sire the first and third place horses in this year's Japan Cup?

Negative. Ouija Board finished 3rd. He was the sire of the winner (Deep Impact) and grandsire of the place horse (Dream Passport, son of Fuji Kiseki who is a son of Sunday Silence).

@nferro9925: The problem of "knowledge" in TB-sport is: "...don't know exactly, but I've heard something somewhere sometimes, but nothing specific as I can't remember ..." 8) :? You can hear this kind of contribution everywhere at any time: " ... I know that I don't know so I'm a TB-expert!"

That feat looked quite difficult but then came a horse came Sunday Silence who went eastward and, as they say, the rest is history

It is not a really actual thread, but we have made a request on the Galopp-Sieger database tpo found all races in this database where the first three horses where sired by the same stallion.

http://www.galopp-sieger.de/galoppsiege ... me=3Hengst

The database contains most of the european group races but not so much from the USA and only a small number of asian races.

I think Kitalpha did something like that in Zimbabwe - the first three or four finishers in a big race were all by Kitalpha.

Comus sired the first four home in the 1818 St Leger, namely, Reveller, Ranter, The Marshall and Masker.
