Name that filly

Postby Roguelet » Fri Jan 12, 2007 12:17 pm

I thought I would try something new this year, and attempt to get this yearling named before 11:59 PM on February 1st.

Bay Filly: Indy Mood - Indecent Proposal, by Proponent. Full sister to Indy Squared, who's pedigree is in the database. Once we name this one, I'll get her in there too.

This filly was a big surprise. The mare checked not in foal the previous year, but despite putting her under lights last year and teasing her daily, she just would not come into heat! The vet palpated to see if there was some problem, and when she told us she was petting a foal, we realized that there was a darn good reason why she was not coming into heat.

Here's a crappy picture of her, but it was just me in the field alone snapping pictures, so it's the best I can do. The picture is from this past Summer.

Anyone have any name suggestions?

I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago. We ended up naming her Captive Surprise (AQHA). For your girl I would suggest Indy Surprise or Indecent Surprise.

With my girl it turned out she had been bred with a double folicle, Apparently the second one was the one that matured and was fertilized. Thus when we checked her at 14 days (or so we thought) the vet didn't see anything.

Your girl looks like a cutie. Have fun!

Breeders like AG Vanderbilt always came up with clever names, but why do breeders name their foals based on parentage? Harry Mangurian did it for years and I ALWAYS would up confusing his horses because the names were always "Valid XYZ" or "XYX Valid". I like names like "Rock Hard Ten" - Mrs Paulson thought he was a great looking foal, so she named him accordingly. So, if this filly has a trait that you like, why not name her for it?

Surprising Mood
Mom's Secret

I like using other languages (other than English).

Indy Surpresa (Portugese for surprise)
Indy Segredo (Portugese for secret) or Indy Segreto (Italian)
