I'm not a hunter/jumper person and I know very little about that sport/discipline (much to the amusement of the Chronicle of the Horse forum, I'm sure). But this thread made me wonder...
I saw All Glory To God as a yearling and he was quite athletic...not fast, but athletic. A very pretty mover. So let's say he ends up being a really nice hunter/jumper.
Have there been many successful hunter/jumpers that were entire, and that then became h/j sires? Or are the best hunter/jumpers always geldings and mares?

Laughing..... I'm not on the COTH board either, but - wow, so many to choose from!
OK, TB list, let's go with my first reaction, a horse named Hand in Glove. American bred TB, raced, then retired (HAH!) to the jumper ring. Possibly the most beautiful TB I have ever seen. Sold for large dollars to a French breeder and now regarded as one of the foundation sires in Selle Francais breeding.
Bottom line is, a LOT of stallions first prove themselves in the showring - especially if they have very valuable sporthorse bloodlines - before ever knowing the breeding shed (or vet's office) exists.

check out my website to see the new pics of my agile horse on the stallion page http://www.derbylynfarms.com/stallion.html . If AGTG is anything like him, he will be a fancy jumper. I believe they share the same sire.
Stayoutfront - here is a link to an interesting web site that discusses jumper sires, also links to other related sites. This might be some good reading for your question about intact jumpers.

Your son of Forli is looking awfully good for his age...I was really surprised when I scrolled down and saw his pedigree/year of birth. Happy looking boy. And a very frisky looking Arctic Cielo!

Your right it is. It is a Bonus with the color b/c he can be shown at breed shows (APHA) which is what I do. These horses are great on the h/j circuit there b/c they are tb's. People are always crossing paints and qh's w/ tb's for hunters. APHA breeders DO care about color b/c that is part of their breed and registry. They won't look twice at a solid chestnut.

Thanks for the interesting comments and information. Bondama, that tbheritage site is great! I've been there for a few things (such as Grave Matters) but never noticed their extended jumper coverage. I've been looking at it and shall read further (I've never heard of Orange Peel, who figures so heavily in show jumping pedigrees - fascinating!).
As mentioned, that All Glory To God was a darned attractive mover as a yearling - fluid and happy - so I wish him well in his pursuits.
Thanks again for the interesting information.
And Arctic Cielo, Community Interest is a fascinating looking animal. I, like ak1, was really surprised the first time I saw him on your website. Forli was a such a wonderful sire.
Good luck with him and your other sires!

Just to let those interested know, we purchased All Glory to God and he will stand at our farm in Jennings, Florida. He is a very nice stallion with excellent conformation. He will be in training as an eventer (not a hunter/jumper) and will stand to outside mares starting in 2008. Recent pictures are up on our website.
