ok I just can't stand this...

``My main worry is that the research program is just going to (be wasted) because these horses _ the colts that are carrying it, they'll go to new homes, they'll just be gelded, and some of these people offering homes are just offering what you'd call retirement paddocks where the horses are just going to sit in a paddock and be a pet.''

she can't be serious. Better them be a fat gelded pet than a starving stallion. or am I the crazy one?

What an idiot she must be - I'm with you AC - better to be a fat, happy gelding than starving to death in some "research" project. Sounds like she'll serve some jail time and lose her vet's license - which she very well should!

We heard from Catch A Bird's new owner just a few months ago, and she mentioned obtaining him from someone that was a little nutso or something. I wonder if this might be that person?

Yeah she said the person was starving him and wondered why he wasn't fertile??? And she couldn't breed him without promising (in contract I guess) any roan offspring be returned to that owner? And of course she didn't want to do that! So he's gone to waste because of what sounds like the same nut. Although I don't see how breeding him to OUTSIDE mares could fall under any such contract. Maybe, hopefully these horses will be rehabbed and then offered for sale so their genetics are not wasted (IF they are of breeding quality, its just hard to say looking at stunted and emaciated boneracks).

Our prayers for the well-being of these creatures. A prayer for the survival and preservation of these horses as well as for many other equines who suffer. Amen! (Thanks for informing.)

I spoke to this person when she still had Catch a Bird and she told me that not all the offspring were thoroughbred. She had mated anything and everything in an effort to preserve the colour. I think she had only one or two TB mares.
I will try and bring up the breeding records and post later.

TB Foals by Catch a Bird bred by Tillbrook

2003 c CATCH A MEMO from Demelza
2002 g NOT A CATCH from No Stress (NZ)
2001 c CATCH A DEMO from Demelza
f MID SUMMER MORN from Krystal Sunrise
g NO CATCH from No Stress (NZ)

If the RSPCA can save any of these horses and get a possession order from the court then they will probably be fed up and then auctioned. Any Australian posters could probably contact the Victorian RSPCA on (03) 5223 1435 to find out what is happening to the horses.

Just read the Geelong Advertiser article and it sounds to me like she planned to inbreed the grandchildren of Catch a Bird. IMO the woman is a fruitcake!!!!!

hello everyone its been awhile.

This case about catch a birds babies is terrible and at this stage no charges have been laid due to people dropping hay off so then she had technically abided by the rules and fed the horses. I know these people thought they were doing the right thing but they actually have majorly delayed trying to have the horses removed.

Catch a Bird (Baron) is happy and healthy and just out the back door at the moment. To his fertility i have no idea as running with an old mare didnt seem to cause anything to happen

cheers

Naomi

I tried e-mailing the rspca with no luck, it was returned to me saying it was a bad address. I was trying to find out something about these horses. It would be very neat to get one over here in the US. But like brumby said to me earlier, they are in no condition to travel this far.

On another link it mentions someone different as being the (previous) owner of Catch a Bird. On here it is saying the person involved is Julie. Was she just breeding to CAB?
