I am curious as to comments on the feed, good and bad. Any opinions would be great!

I have had wonderful results with Buckeye feed. Especially for my elderly horses.

Their foal pellets and milk replacer are the very best products like that I have found on the market.

Thats great you have all had such great success! Do any of you have race horses in Ont. Canada, or know of anyone that does? I am curious as to if people are using it while they are in Canada as well! Thanks so much for the responses!

Im in Ontario and use it and have had good results with it

What are are you in? There are a lot of dealers that carry it and the one I was at today, does supply several barns at Woodbine with it as well!

It's what we use on our appendix QH and AQHA horses - nice coats and good weights and not hot.

I have fed Buckeye for more then 20 yrs....LOVE IT!
The Company was sold about 1 1/2-2 yrs ago to the MARS Corp. Several changes were recently mada in a few of the formulas. I know the GROWTH was taken back to its original formula...a few products have been dropped from the line and a few new added. You know what Bob Dylan said....."the time they are a changing."

Thats great!

I am actually a Buckeye Rep. that goes into Woodbine race track to service our clients there! I am in the process of getting some more people onboard to try the feed, and was hoping to get some contacts at the track!

Thanks for all your imput! I am glad that everyone has happy and healthy horses! :D

Buckeye Feed

Postby 20dourmdd » Sat Jun 16, 2007 7:25 pm

What is happening with Buckeye Feed...Dealers and Nutritionist are leaving and going to another feed company. I'm in Ohio near the Wooster Ag school, and some of these guys have been with Buckeye for ages. If your a dealer, we use race and win, foal starter, grow and win. My only complaint is they put too much molasses in the race and win that can cause some stomach problems at the track..."ulcers" due to not moving through the gut, so we put more cracked oats with it.

Haven't tried the Buckeye myself, not even sure if we get it around here (East Coast Canada). I'm down to semi-retired (ex show) pleasure horses and like the Blue Seal feeds. I've also used Purina and the tack/feed store's Purina custom mix in past.

Aside from Buckeye, anyone have any other favorite feeds? I always find it interesting to see what others feed and prefer for their horses, be they racehorses, pleasure, breeding stock, etc.

I raised my orphan filly on Buckeye milk replacer. It was a wonderful product. However, they changed the formula, and my local supplier dropped Buckeye. I chose to follow the Buckeye nutritionist to Progressive. My yearlings are currently being fed Progressive Pro Ad Grass Formula and they look great. I am very pleased with the product and service from Progressive.

I know this is an older thread, but I remembered people talking about Buckeye feed, and wondered if anyone could make a suggestion. I have a 27 year old quarter horse gelding that is starting to show the first signs of Cushings (wavy coat, atrophy along the topline) and my farrier suggested Grow'n'Win by Buckeye. He said it's low in starches and would help him out. My old boy is currently on 24-hour "roam as he pleases" good pasture and TDI Senior. His weight is consistant, if not a little on the heavy side (which admittedly is where I like my older guys although I know it's probably not the best). My question is this: I read through the description of Grow'n'Win and it seems to be geared towards horses in developmental stages. Has anyone tried feeding this to older horses with success? My farrier suggested this over the Buckeye Senior because of the low starches. Thanks for any input in advance!!!

I have a horse with cushings in my care and was told to take her OFF of Buckeye becuase of the high sugar content (molasis) in the grain. She was moved to an oil based grain and I have seen great results. I've heard more and more complaints about buckeye because the reps are leaving since the change in formulas and such... should be interesting. Good luck with your cushings horse!

Buckeye Feeds

Grow and win is good stuff for developing foals and mares in foal...I would give it a try on the older horse...I like it, but it is expensive.
