Aga Khans breeding theories

Postby MillyMix » Wed Dec 08, 2004 12:30 pm

After watching the DVD in the new brochure im keen to find information on the Aga Khans breeding theories and details on his foundation stock.

Does anyone have any ideas on books or websites I could buy or look at?

Thanks

Ask your Jockey Club in the UK, where the TB library is located and you will find the breeding principals of Aga Khan.

Hi

Long been a subject of great interest and study for me. I have several volumes outlining the stock in his Irish and French breeding operations, which I study hungrily. Check this website for some information that I'm sure you will find interesting.

Hi again

Peter Willett has a chapter on The Aga Khan in his "Makers Of The Modern Thoroughbred". This is a very informative book, and I recommend it highly.

Hallo,
here in Germany had been published 2 books abou the Aga Khan and his breeding.
the first one was in 1986 "The Tables Genealogiques des Poulinieres de L'evevages de Aga Khan". An overview about the families still in his studs and a brief consideration of the families, with he no longer breds from. There a 5 generation peds of his foundationsmare, a list of important winners + extended familytables up to 1980's. This issue inclued the Boussac and Dupre Mares, the then Aga Khan purchased after the downfall of their breeding.

the same author published 2 year ago a silmiliar book titled "75 Years
The Aga Khan's Racing and Breeding Stud". A survey about all Horses the Aga Khan and his family owned, bred, raced purcheased and later sold to other countries + updated family tables of his most important foundationsmares.

Before I forget the name of the Author is Georg Lange. Sadly both books are out of print, now. From the latter one only 400 copies were made and I paid 400,-- DM for it. Maybe there is a "lucky owner" except me on this list.

If my memory don't fail me a chapter about the Aga Khan breed is in Ken McLean's book "Quest for a Classic Winner".

Best regards, Bettina

You'll also find a chapter on the Aga Khan in A. Hewitt's The Great Breeders and Their Methods.
"A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher...You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse." C. S. Lewis

The "old" Aga wrote a wonderful autobiography "World Enough and Time - The Memoirs of Aga Khan", first published 1954 with Simon and Schuster, New York. In this book the thoroughbreds are referred to in only one chapter, but nevertheless the information given is authentically by the owner and breeder.
