White Homozygous black filly.

Postby Dalene Knight » Tue Jul 24, 2007 7:29 pm

This filly is dark eyed, white bodied with black in her mane and tail. In addition to being homozygous for black she is double recessive for the aguti gene. She is out of the black Prince Stanley daughter "Blackita Frost" and by my black/white sabino stallion "Painting Freedom" by Airdrie Apache.
What fun it is to explain how a white Thoroughbred is actually a homozygous black.
Count Me In (A.P. Indy x Countess Diana) has a fine white filly from his first foal crop out of an Airdrie Apache daughter (Silverlite JC) among this season's colored TB foals.

Actually all blacks are homozygous for non agouti, that's why they are black! aa (otherwise they'd be bay or brown) :D

But yeah explaining the white sabino thing can be really difficult.

Pictures, we want pictures!!!

Dear Dalene,

Thank you so much for posting this thread. Wow, I agree that a photo is necessary.

The news makes me remember a TV add about a dehydrated man in the desert who is rescued and franctically demands "salted potato chips". After his unusual request is granted, he then grabs from his backpack full-of-ice a near frozen can of refreshment, smiles like crazy and drinks. The ad then claims: "For the worst thirst".

The news of a dark eyed, white bodied with black in her mane and tail filly is the equivalent of the thirst that deserves "salted potato chips" (the photograph), in order for the frozen refreshment can (our joy and awe) to appear and calm the worst thirst!
