Oh, please don't pm him. I'd love to see a comparison of wages for different geographical areas.

I have a summary packed away somewhere that lists averages of all wages paid in KY - I'll look it up and post them.

WAGES?

Postby BostonGal » Fri Aug 10, 2007 5:44 am

You need to be more specific about where you want to live, the size of the operation you want to work for, if you need housing and benefits. Most management jobs that Ive been seeing include housing with the salary. Bigger operations, based in KY, FL, CA offer health benefits and 401K as well. Ive looked into jobs in SC where I'd be taking a $10K paycut but the cost of living there is alot cheaper then where I live (MA).

And of course the pay almost always equals the experience. Someone fresh out of college wont make as much as someone who's been in the industry for 20 plus years..

I haven't forgotten to do this guys! I just have been having back problems and had a pain block this week - should be able to get upstairs tomorrow and find the info (plus I have to do paperwork so I've got to the office anyhow) - I'll dig up the info and post what I have on wages from a survey I received.

Hi guys - this will be down and dirty - and hope it provides some of the info you are looking for. This was received from a survey for 2006.

Salary ranges for (I've listed averages here - but it goes up depending on the size of the farm and the number of horses, etc... on the farm but hopefully this will give you some perspective - and then showed high end and low end)

Farm manager: $40,000 to $80,000 (L- $18,000, H - $200,000)
Division manager: $30,000 - $80,000) (L- $21,000, H - $150,000)
Stallion manager: $22,000 - $60,000 (L - $22,000, H - $100,000)
Financial manager: $35,000 - $80,000) (L - $35,000, H - $200,000)
Office Manager: $27,000 to 80,000) (L - $20,000)
Groom: $5.65 per hour to 11.64 per hour
Foreman - $6.15 per hour to $21.65 per hour
Watchman - $6.15 per hour to $13.64 per hour
Ag Worker - $5.15 per hour to $11.64 per hour
Seasonal Worker Sales - $6.15 per hour to $21.65 per hour
Seasonal Worker Ag (mowing, trimming) - $5.65 to $15.65 per hour
Skilled labor (mechanic, plumber) - $7.15 to $21.65 per hour
Office Clerk - $5.15 to $18.65 per hour
Bookkeeper - $6.65 to greater than $21.65 per hour
Booking Secretary - $7.15 to 21.65 per hour
Average Daily Pay Rate for Sales Staff - $130 to $209 per day. 3 say they pay $250 per day

Employees are generally paid weekly, given time off for holidays, average vacation days range from 1 to 14 or more, few provide vacation days to part time employees, sick time is allotted to full time employees and those range average about 6 per year. Most do not provide sick time for part time employees.

On average, employer pays single health insurance coverage but most do not provide family coverage (if they do it is divided on whether they pay or the employee pays). Dental insurance is generally not provided nor is life insurance.

If the farms require uniforms, the employee generally purchases them. and it is split on who maintains the uniforms. A large portion 57% provide on farm housing for employees and 55% do not charge rent and 37% the farm pays the utilities as well as the maintenance. 58% provide vehicles for employees with them paying fuel and insurance as well as repairs and maintenance. Of that 37% is restricted for farm usage only.

Hope this was helpful and sorry it took me so long to post it.

Have a good one :D

That was extremely interesting. The highs don't surprise me, but the lows sure do. Who could manage a farm for $18,000?
