Also new with stallion questions.

Postby winestone1 » Sun Dec 12, 2004 8:27 pm

Hi
I have some questions regarding picking a stallion, we have a filly (3) by Bianconi x red ransom daughter. If you see a photo of bianconi and her side by side you can't tell them apart. That is the only way I can describe her, big and beautiful. Great conformation. We are looking at two kingmambo sons in the area and today saw two weanlings sell by one of them at very disappointing prices. We haven't decided to breed for sale or racing yet. I lean towards selling , husband wants to race. Any advice will be appreciated.

Depends ,do you need the money?
Do you get a rush selling a horse?
Are you a race fan or a salesman?

I like the Bianconi-Red Ransom breeding, but send more info, if she's 3, there's a problem.

Hi Jodi,

Do you have budget? If the mare is Bianfast; I really like her breeding and I think a solid source of Seeking The Gold could be a real factor.

Seeking The Gold sired Fall Aspen's grandson Dubai Millenium, who was perhaps the greatest racehorse in the last 10 years. And Seeking The Gold has combined quite nicely with Red Ransom's sire Roberto in the GIWs Riskaverse, La Tizona (CHI), and Dubawi, who crosses Roberto with both Seeking The Gold AND Fall Aspen.

The best source of Seeking The Gold for this mare on pedigree is Pure Prize. His sire Storm Cat is an excellent nick with Hail To Reason (to whom Bianfast's dam is inbred 3x4) and his 2nd damsire Nijinsky has combined with Fall Aspen in the Frizette (GI) winner Balletto, Japanese Derby (GI) winner Mugamuchu, and South African Gold Cup (GI) Winner Major Bluff from not many examples.

So to backtrack a little:

1.The sire (Storm Cat) of Pure Prize is an excellent nick with Roberto/Hail To Reason.

2.The damsire (Seeking The Gold) of Pure Prize has combined with Fall Aspen in the significant Champion and all-time great Dubai Millenium.

3.The damsire has also combined with Roberto in the GIWs Riskaverse, La Tizona, and Dubawi.

and...

4.The 2nd damsire (Nijinsky) of Pure Prize has combined with Fall Aspen in the GIWs Balletto, Mugamuchu, and Major Bluff.

Also note the strong damline of Pure Prize proveds 6x6 inbreeding to Sword Dancer through his best son Damascus and best daughter Lady Pitt; and that Danzig (the grandsire of your mare) combined with Pure Prize's Blitey femfam in the GI Producer Weekend Leave, the dam of the Chilean Classic Winner We Can Seek.

Pure Prize-Bianfast would also be 4/4 Nijinsky/Roberto, who share a pretty close Bull Lea/Blue Larkspur cross and a very powerful affinity reflected in GIWs like Vergennes, Nothing To Lose, Soaring Softly, Volga, Plenty of Grace, Mustafaweq, Sea Girl, and the GI Producers Robert's Pride (dam of Alpride) and Lilac Garden (the dam of Electric Unicorn and Blushing K. D.) It would also be 3/6 Red Ransom/First Landing, who showed up 1/3 in Del Mar Oaks (GI) winner Bail Out Becky.

Pure Prize-Bianfast would be an especially strong match-up on paper; and I highly recommend it if they don't share any major faults (Pure Prize is crooked up front, but he did manage to run 17 times).

annie(bianfast)

Postby winestone1 » Mon Dec 13, 2004 6:52 am

Hi,

I am annie's owner/trainer, we bought her lame needing a year layoff, brought her back and she showed great promise in training, bled her first race, lasix second race but backed off at half then came on strong but too late finishing 5th, and fractured her knee in final race with chips in both.

We decided to try to breed a sound foal rather than run a longshot, so she is retired. Now we found her for a steal, so I hate to say but our budget is low and need to stay in TX/AR/LA/Ok area. We hope to breed her eventually to say the Ky area but not right now, so looking for our best avenue local.

Thanks again, Jodi
since someone found her name are there any other bianconi/redransom crosses out there?

December sales are usually a bust. It's simply the wrong time of year.

If you're breeding to sell regionally, my neighbor's horse Boone's Mill tends to hold his value remarkedly well year after year. If our Big Guy Valid Expectations is out of your price range, then take a look at his stakes winning kid brother Littleexpectations at the advertised fee of $3,500. His first foals are weanlings and only three or four have gone through auctions this year. One of his babies RNA'd yesterday at $19K. Another sold in Florida a couple months ago for $15K. If LittleE turns out only half as good as Valid E, he'll still be good enough.

Considering your mare's soundness issues, if you breed to race, I suggest avoiding any stallion carrying a line of the brilliant, but extremely brittle Seeking The Gold.

Hi llbean.

I found your comments regarding Bianfast very interesting, particularly your reference to Balletto, Mugamuchu and Major Bluff.

I have an interest in a 2yo Filly, BENKO. She is in the data base. Her breeding looks pretty good to me but i am no guru on the matter and i would welcome your thoughts.

thanks!

Hi Fatportfolio,

Very interesting mare; the 2nd dam is a full sister to 1972 Champion Turf Male Run The Gantlet and he combined with Bianconi's sire Danzig and the 2nd damsire Secretariat in the MGIW and Millionaire Honor Glide.

As demonstated by Balletto, Mugamuchu, and Major Bluff; Fall Aspen and Nijinsky are a strong nick and both in turn nick well with Woodman. Fall Aspen getting her best racing foal Timber Country to his cover and Woodman combining with him in numerous GIWs, including the excellent English Champion Miler Hawk Wing. Thus Woodman or perhaps one of his sons would really be the place to look with this mare in my opinion.

The GIWs with Woodman and Nijinsky are:

Hawk Wing
Ciro
Way of Light
Balletto (Significantly also has Fall Aspen)
Teggiano
Mugamuchu (significantly also has Fall Aspen also)

That's a truely remarkable proportion of the GIWs by Woodman or his son Timber Country.

I also forgot to mention that Woodman and Fall Aspen also combined in Kentucky Derby 3rd place finisher Prince of Thieves.

Is the filly showing promise? I'd tend to think Secretariat is a positive in the Australian racing enviroment since he managed to get a Melbourne Cup winner (Kingston Rule for the Yanks).

llbean, thanks very much for your thoughts.

She is in her preperation work with her first race likely in February if all goes to plan. Will most likely breed with her after her race days are over so thanks for the pointers.

She's a big strong glamour with a big butt and I will let you know how she goes.

Cheers.

llbean, the reports from the stables are that she is looking outstanding but hasn't yet trialled. She has had a 200 metre jump out where it was noted she had excellent 2yo speed. She split her hoof on a stone in the paddock but has recovered and was immediately sent to the racing stables where she is now doing her preperation work.

Kingston Rule did very well and won the Melbourne Cup but the only other horse with Secretariat that i can think of is a Filly called Mango Daiquiri (she is in data base) which ran 4th in Australias best 3yo Filly's race called The Crown Oaks back in November.

Winestone, if you are looking for sons of Kingmambo, there are at least four in states surrounding Texas for minimal fees. Monarch's Maze and Muldoon in OK, Parade Ground in Colorado, and Uncle Abbie in Texas. All at $2500 or less. Muldoon has been around long enough to have runners, and some are doing well. Parade Ground is a 16.3hh, and I don't know his progeny record. The other two have at most two year olds. contact information is listed at Thoroughbred Times 2005 Stallion Directory, click on "all stallions".

I'm not super hot on Muldoon. A lot of them are just not that athletic looking. Alot of them are really heavy bodied. He certainly is no Here We Come.

I know you said you may look at Ken later but if you are wanting a racehorse by a son of Kingmambo I would go to King Cugat for 5k at Lanes End. Instead of spending 2k on an unraced or lackluster son why not go to one that most def showed tremendous ablity on the track. His 2nd dam is Con Game who is the the dam of Seeking The Gold & by Buckpasser who of course is the broodmare sire of above mentioned Woodman. Kingmambo as a sire of sires is still up in the air. I dont like Lemon Drop Kid myself. Kings Best should prove out to be a very nice sire but he is in Europe. King Cugat is not very popular due to him being such a good turf horse is my only guess, dont know anything about his conformation either but he offers much value for 5k & IMO is well worth looking into with your mare.
