What horses would you like to see in a 6 generation pedigree if you were trying to produce a S.W.?

Interesting question! Mine would be Bold Ruler on Bold Ruler, close up.

I want to see lots of reigns.... La Troienne, Somethingroyal, Misty Morn, the old school girls.

I also am a sucker for known stallions who are listed as chefs, but I like the Quality addition that the Werk folks add.

I'd throw in some Tom Fool mares with that Bold Ruler.

Actually, if I was trying for a SW (why try for anything else?) I don't look past three generations. The immediate sire, dam, broodmare sire, and 2nd damsire are the four really important horses for the offspring.

Im with Madelyn. If you take generations 4-5-6 of the best stakes horses in the world and the cheapest claimers at Charlestown, you won't be able to tell the difference between them.

That is true but they had to come from somewhere, but then again I don't trust the pedigrees from long ago because I know too many that are not what they are supposed to be. The only way a pedigree can be verified, is since blood typing & DNA started.

Would like to see double doses of Grey Flight, Good Morning, La Troienne, Plucky Liege, Somethingroyal, Gina Marie, Raise You, Tiny Request, Iberia, Natalma, Aspidistra.

But, in synthesis its easier to assemble a basketball Dream Team than to reunite all those good broodmares in a horse's sixth removed and achieve something huge. I am almost sure that such a horse would not be another Secretariat!

Its like trying to assemble a starting basketball lineup with 5 seven-footers with no point-guard and no shooting-guard. Too mighty but not necessarily too versatile.

I like the elusive Rasmussen factor: inbreeding within 5 generations to a superior female.
Absent that, a good, strong female family with a healthy percentage of runners/winners in the first three generations.

I like a true Rasmussen factor also. I bred Miss Courageous to Osidy -- besides being by Storm Cat, Osidy is out of Que Belle by Seattle Dancer. Miss Courageous is out of Capote Belle, by Capote, giving me a 4x4 My Charmer through Seattle Slew and Seattle Dancer, which is a true RF breeding. But you have all the other stuff "going on" in the cross, too.

Well, I like all your answers, but my horses would be double ups or even singles of Nasrullah, Turn-To, and Princequillo. You all know what a Nasrullah son (Bold Ruler) and a Princequillo Daughter (Somethinhroyal) wound up with: Secretariat.

Also tracing back on the leading sire's(Smart Strike) female side you have Classy'nSmart by Smarten who is of the Turn-To line and out of the great S.W.ing producer No Class who was out of Classy Quillo who was by the Nassrullah son Outing Class and out of the Princequillo mare Quillopoly.
