Anyone here from Nicholasville? I know I have asked about Harrodsburg and Mount Sterling before. Now I am looking at a job in Nicholasville. Any nice places outside of Nicholasville that would be a good place to look for a place to live? I am tired of the ice and snow here in Maine.

Hey Keith.
Nicholasville and Lexington are slowly encroaching towards one another; it's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. EXCEPT... when you look at land prices. There are still deals to be had on land -- I'm looking in Nicholasville/Jessamine County right now -- and it's pretty nice land for horses, too. If you want to be closer to the Thoroughbred industry, closer to a small/mid-size city, and in an area where you can raise horses, Nicholasville is a pretty good bet.
I'm not an expert on the area, but I'm right next door, so if you have any questions I can answer, I'm happy to help out!
Maine has nice summers
Maine has nice summers but winter is very long. The ground has been ice and snow covered since November. I just miss all the seasons. Spring and fall in Maine is too short. In Maine we call spring mud season. I grew up in Charles Town, West Virginia, and I have lived in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois, and Idaho. Illinois is very cold during the winter. My sister lives in Iowa and she is getting extremely cold temperatures. I like Maine other than the weather.

Keith, Jessamine County is nice and really pretty close in to Lex. Lots of nice farms down there, too. Southwest of Nicholasville is Wilmore, kind of a quaint little town with a theological college in the center. Possibly an area you want to check out. Directly west of Nicholasville is Keene, which is very horsey - no real town, but a nice area.
You also may want to look at Franklin, Anderson, Madison and Clark counties - land prices get cheaper but you are still close in.
Shameless plug alert: if you want to look at Shelby County (between Lex and Louisville) I have a small farm coming on the market soon.
But, it is a nice horsey area, too.
The winters are not the best - lemme share my icestorm pics with you - but surely better than ME. If I wasn't getting to be too much of weather weenie, I'd be interested in moving back.

Looking at a place for sale on Kissing Ridge Road
Hi,
I see a place for sale on Kissing Ridge Road in Nicholasville for $69,500 and 10 acres. Speaking of warmer weather I found a job opening in Beaumont, California which is 20 miles from where my uncle lives in Hemet, California. Moving is very expensive and so is everything else. I have to make my decision tommorrow.

Talk about your weather extremes. If you like hot summers and lots of desert critters, you'll like Beaumont and Hemet.

I moved from Hemet to New Hampshire, I would take NH over that heat any day. that is 110 in the shade in summer there. Been here 10 years now, have to say I am pretty tired of this winter though, we have 4-5 feet of snow piled everywhere, we don't have a driveway anymore just an icy little funnel you can barely get in and out of now.

Maine
Hi CampRiver
I live in Bowdoin, Maine near Brunswick and between Auburn and Portland. When I lived in North Carolina and in the Virginia Beach area, I enjoyed the mild winters. My sister who lives in Iowa has had a terrible winter. If I am to move am looking for a nice place to live as far as a home. I am also looking in the Eureka Springs, Arkansas area as far as a job. Land is so expensive here in Maine and $80,000 for a trailer on a 1/4 acre is ridiculus especially ice covered most of the winter. It sure is poor footing for the horses in the winter. If Suffolk has a future I could see staying here but racing in Massachusetts is all up in the air. I am close to Scarborough Downs which has harness racing. When I lived in Idaho I was near some bush tracks like Sandy Downs and Pocatello Downs. My dad wants me to move back to Idaho. I guess I miss traveling after getting out of the navy in 2002.
