Dosage index

Can soem one explain to me how the dosage index works? My horse Valid Diablo has the following numbers: DP = 8-2-7-1-0 (18) DI = 3.00 CD = 0.94

Also does anyone out there know anything about his sire Diablo? I have looked but get nothing.
