The Jockey Club will research the tattoo and send you new registration papers for a fee.

OK, USA, PLEASE DON'T SHOUT! LOL! When you use caps it looks like you are shouting, its good taste to use small letters and appropriate punctuation, etc., when posting, welcome to the board, tell us a bit about yourself!

I am a former OTTB or two owner, love racing and listen in whenever I can. Learning all kinds of things here, about the energy of the racing world. I'm in New England, on Cape Cod!
Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket!

Actually, juliet, the lip tattoo is the registration number with the exception that the first character in the tattoo is a letter representing the year of birth. So! You can figure out the registration number by decoding the letter. 1996 was Z, 1997 started the alphabet again at A. Let's say, just for the sake of the exercise, your horse's tattoo is X48732 (it could be four or five digits after the letter). X was 1994. So the registration number is 9448732. This is one way to be sure you have the right papers for the horse!

hi juliet

If you contact the Jockey Club at...859-224-2700 they should be able to assist you...

...and explain the necessary process to replace the "lost" "papers" (Jockey Club Certificate of Foal Registration).

I expect a notarized explanation/statement from the seller you purchased the horse from (regarding circumstances relating to the "lost" "papers" that presumably they had in their possession most recently)...may be required (by the JC).

Probably photos will be required also...and certainly a Bill of Sale always helps.

I expect there will be a JC processing charge also...once their requirements are satisfied.

Respectfully

The fee for the replacement papers is $150, and yes, a sworn, notarized statement has to be gotten from whoever lost the papers, describing how they were lost. And a full set of reg photos...
