Funnycide a pony horse?

Postby Crystal » Sun Jun 01, 2008 1:12 pm

On the Bloodhorse.com there is a photo of Tale of Ekati going to the track with pny and rider who happens to be noted as Funnycide.. Is this what the trooper has been enlisted as, instead of a grassy field retirement? Was he just not ready to settle down? Does Sacatoga stables (or whatever) still own him or are they leasing him out?

He’s a pony for Barclay Tagg - last year the Bloodhorse had a neat shot of Funny Cide leading Nobiz Like Shobiz. I couldn’t find it online.

Found this, though…

Some horses enjoy the racetrack routine and all the human attention that goes with it -- they get bored and fret away from the track. I'm sure Tagg's taking good care of his buddy.

Crystal, I think he has a great life. Technically, he still belongs to Sackatoga, but they have more or less permanently loaned him to Barclay as a pony. He doesn't work as hard as many ponies, he goes to Palm Meadows, he gets turned out. He has a job and two people that love him. When he gets older, he'll be retired then to grassy pastures.

If they had retired him to KHP, he wouldn't be any happier. Look how fast he transitioned into being a pony. Here's a photo of him relaxing on the track:

What's wrong with Funnycide having a job? He's young and sound and likes the race track life. It's perfect for him. Think of it as a star athlete who retires to become a coach.

Retirement farms should be for horses that can't work any more because of age or health issues not for horses that can still earn their keep.

I think it's great that he's a pony! Like Kona Gold and other good geldings before him!

That picture is so cool. I love that Funny cide got to become a pony.
Some exracers just absolutely love their jobs as ponies. Mine is the happiest camper ever, and gets all the love and attention he deserves. Funny Cide looks like he's quite happy now as a pony... that is too cool.

Have you seen that little boy lately? He's a young man, and he does horse racing media sometimes like HRTV and TVG. He's a wicked handicapper. Don't book his bets!

i think i found the bloodhorse.com pic of Funny Cide leading Tale of Ekati out with Barclay Tagg up on him....

http://tcm.bloodhorse.com/bio_TaleofEkati.asp

i think that's GREAT that Barclay and the owners still have him and are keeping him happy and useful after his retirement!

gosh , that youtube clip and the articles that others linked just brought TEARS TO MY EYES ( as much as that little boy did ...wasn't that precious! LOL) for this horse and his accomplishments, and good life he has now. i am a NY'r by birth....so this hits home. he retired after his last race at Finger Lakes Race track where I used to go to with my father on the weekends as a little girl. god that brought back memories!

thanks for posting about Funny Cide!!

Why not use Funny Cide as a yearly parade leading horse for the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes and eventually, substitute him with another winner and so on. Not all winners are entire horses or become great stallions, so, why not use them as a living token and respect for the Triple Crown. And for their careers.

Here's another video from Bloodhorse and HRTV about Funny Cide.

Edited to say: Oops, same video as above. Sorry!
