Brisnet's SSI figures
It seems that they indicate earnings per start, do any of you know what they are actually. What does SSI stand for? If you haven't looked at the free predigree, race records and inbreeding, you might want to. You can also get free hypothetical matings.
Roger, I think that is based on the average earnings per crop. So if a 1970 horse had a SSI of 1.00, he earned exactly the average for all of the horses of the 1970 crop. That way, you can compare fairly horses from 1970 to horses of 2005, even though some of the upper end purses are much bigger.
"When I am on my deathbed, I imagine I will say, 'Thank God I did that'" - Arthur Hancock, on buying back Gato del Sol from Europe after Exceller was killed in a slaughterhouse in Sweden.
that's about right maxj...i found this site that explains in detail...

Standard Starts Index (SSI). It's based on average earnings per start rather than average earnings per runner, but it also compares the runner's average with that of all other starters in each year (1.00), so an SSI of 2.00 is twice as good as the average.
lots of other good info on there too for explainations!
