Soooo how was your weekend........

Postby fullspeed » Mon Jun 16, 2008 8:22 am

Never been so glad to see a Monday morning as I was today. I just had to share my weekend of close calls.

So Saturday eve we were just finishing up working some horses and giving baths. Happened to be a little tired and not paying attention to where I was walking. I was just about to put my foot down to step up into my tack room and my friend screams at me from behind to run. So thank goodness I was able to spin around and sprint. When I turned around I saw that I was about ready to step right on top of a Copperhead snake  . I had nooooo idea they would come up into a busy barn. The only thing I can think of is we had shavings and hay delivered that afternoon could something have hitched a ride to my barn....yikes. Well it seems as if the snake may have been making its way into my tack room to eat my new little barn kitties that were born just a few days ago. Sooooo mom and kitties were packed up and now are living in the spare room in the house.lol :) So later the same night I am on my way home from a friends house and had just turned onto a main road which is a 2-3 lane busy road. Well up over the crest of a hill comes another vehicle....straight at me. :o I had a matter of a few seconds to act and I went for the ditch. So I within inches escaped a possibly very bad head on crash. The other guy never braked or swerved nothing. I was rolling in my convertible to so that would have realllly hurt.
Sunday ended with a bang....yes a bang from a very stout little horse. I was cow kicked right in my stomach and upper thigh area by a very powerful little horse. He nailed my left arm and right hand as well. I have now reinjured my right hand that I broke a few months ago. Needless to say I am one sore puppy right now.

Sooooo how was your weekend? :D I am just glad to be here.

mine was rather sedate by comparison!

I rode two horses on Sunday and had a wonderful time. I'm slowly working back into the whole riding thing, but a great start.

Sorry to hear about your weekend!

Gawd, and I thought it was just ME!

I took a nasty bite from a friend's mare Friday evening. She lunged at me over her stall wall as I was passing by and nailed me in the left side near my collar bone. An inch in either direction would have been either jugular vein or a broken collar bone. I think she was aiming for my face, and it's a good thing I was able to at least dodge a little! It could have been lots worse. I have a huge mark that looks like a 4 inch hickey surrounded by purple and yellow bruised flesh.

Then Saturday, I cut the very tip of my left thumb off while cutting chicken chunks to make a chicken salad at a catering job I had. (damned sharp knives......) Bled nastily for about 10 mins,, then I was able to move on.

I stayed in bed all Sunday after church!

Are we talking Friday the 13th aftermath or something??

Mine was uneventful but I've been staying out of harm's way lately.

I had a flood. Actually, two floods in less than a week. My car is totaled--four feet of water in the garage will do that. I JUST got the gas turned back on in the house, and I have to wait for FEMA to show up to find out if they want to chip in on fixing the holes in my basement and whatever else might be ailing the foundation.

I love the midwest. Oh yes I do.

dyyamnnn guys, tough weekends!!!

Glad everyone is alive and kicking.

My only complaint is either being at someone's house playing guest or having people at my house so I'm playing host for 1 solid week.

So I'm tired...oh and got some singing gigs in there too . . .

but no injuries to speak of.

Saturday was a day from hell. Had an idiot pass our horse trailer on the left as we were turning left into the driveway and about take the front off the truck. Then had to load horses, one of which jumped on the handler and pulled his shoulder out of socket. Later in the day they had to turn the trailer around in a very tight area which involved having to take the truck up a slight hill to finish the turn around. Truck slid and trailer jackknifed and broke out the truck's back window. And then just to top off the fun, on the way home another crazy driver ran the (luckily empty) truck and trailer off the road and into the ditch and almost flipped both. Luckily my guy got it under control and stopped tipped at a 45 degree angle and we got it pulled out pretty quickly without additional damage but by the time we got the trailer back to the farm and unhooked I decided that was it for the day, everybody go home.

LOL! There's nothing more surreal than having a group of people with clipboards walk up to you when you're clearing up debris and hearing one of them chirp, "Hi! We're FEMA!"

Here's hoping the rest of this week is an improvement for everyone!

My weekend was actually memorable for the best possible reasons. On Saturday, my mare Basic Instinct's 2-year-old, Fitzaslew, broke his maiden in special weight company at Churchill Downs (and was the first winner for his sire). On Sunday, my mare Nicky Soup had a winner, too, when Lycentious won the first race at Finger Lakes for her second straight win. Here's hoping there are more days like that to come in the near future!
