EXCERISE RIDERS SEEK RAISE

Postby louis finochio » Mon Sep 27, 2004 5:29 pm

The excerise riders in So. Cal are now receving $10.00 per horse. They are now asking for a $5.00 raise to $15.00 for each Tb they work or gallop. I hope they get their $15.00 per horse approved, as inflation is hurting their pocket book. This 5.00 raise is long overdue, and the high risk they take every time they get on a TB, is worth way more than a $5.00 raise.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

WOW! Out here, quite a few of the Jocks ride in the morning for free if you name them up on the horse when it races. Of course, sometimes you tip, etc. and some do charge, but it's on a case by case basis, not across the board.

We use only a few certain jockeys on our horses. When we bring a horse to the track for a work, they do it for free....well, sort of. The jockey's agent will pay an exercise rider for us if the actual jock is busy.

As for everyday riding, well, that's my job, no tips...it's a family business!

A 50% pay hike? Sounds good, if they start by raising the purses by that much.

huh. Exercise riders here make pretty big bucks if they are willing to work... yeah, they get ten bucks a horse, but if they start at 4am at Churchill, then shift over to Trackside, then go to Cooks for afternoon training, they can be done by 4pm and get $200 a day (20 head). If they are on a trainer's payroll, they get $600 or so a week, plus can still go to other spots and pick up rides, plus get FULL health, dental, vision coverage for their entire family through HBPA.
