PA Bred broodmare farm at $15/day

Postby KamiBrooks » Thu Sep 04, 2008 6:55 pm

I know a really nice little boarding farm, tucked away on 100 acres in western PA.

The owner experienced in foaling horses, has a respected reproductive vet in near by town (not on site), nice little facility w/indoor for turn out in bad weather if needed. She has a 3 stall run in paddock (basically 3 individual stalls in separate barn w/24/7 access to a couple acres).

Do you think $15/day + expenses is a reasonable rate to board mares to foal out into the PA Bred program?

I think I'd have to get my mare over there before Oct 1 to qualify for the program (and to get one of the stalls). I've known this place for 6 years and one of the things I like is that she's not a high density place and not a broodmare farm, so less chance of the diseases that hit the foals. She's not a show barn, no stallions, few horses comming in/out.

Just not sure the current rates for broodmare services in PA.

I am in LA my rate here is $15.00 a day for resident mares. When I was looking for a farm in PA for a friend prices seem to run between 18-24 a day. So i would have to say 15 a day is very good. I ship to FL & KY every year to breed day rate there is 22 -35 I think it is good
Thanks,

Kathy

There was a discussion here last year or the year before around this time & back then it seemed it was tough to find any place you would trust with your horse for less than $18/day, so $15 sounds reasonable.

Kami,
We just shipped our mares out to Pa. this week as well. That is an excellent rate and others like it worthy of consideration are few & far between.
Bring 'em back tired ; but bring 'em back sound !

absoultley, We charge 26.00 a day, and a farm we would go to in Pa charges 22.00 so that is a great price.
