How many TBs can you name that raced over 50 races and then retired sound (or are still racing)? Thank you.

hi fernhollow

Although he does not meet your 50 race level...I suggest that Skip Away (who finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd in 34 of 38 starts from age 2 thru 5) could have pulled it off.

Consider this...at age 5 (his last year racing prior to entering the stallion ranks) Skip Away was champion and Horse of the Year...made 8 starts...winning 5 grade 1's...a G2 and a G3 (in which he set a New Track Record)...and was third in a G1, the only race he did not win that year.

Overall he won 10 grade 1's...plus 6 G2's and G3's...was champion three times plus Horse of the Year.

He danced every dance...ducked no one...and arguably could have continued racing...at the highest level.

Skip Away was one serious race horse...WOW.

Respectfully

A mare we just bought (Nashua's Tune) retired sound after 71 starts in 6 years (raced from 2 to 8 ) then went on to be a jumper for another 6 years and just retired at 14. We just bought her as a broodmare.

My Elmer's Pride mare that I had a few years ago had 98 starts over 7 years (I think it was), she retired totally sound with no ankles, knees, bows - heck not even a splint on her!
She won her $39,000.00 the darned "hard way"!

A really nice, nice mare

Northland's Gift-59 starts (last time I pulled a summary, and I know he has started at least 3 times since). 7 years and sound as far as I know.

Jean's Gift-57 starts (16-16-9) Retired sound @ 6 (4 foals, including above horse)

Phyl Me In-I Honestly do not remember # of starts but it was at least 60, retired sound @ 11 (Second foal due next month)

Mighty Crazy-Don't remember exact Number of starts but I know it was at least 110-He is at least 20 now and did not have soundness issues until 3-4 years in to a jumping career

Classic Jewel...171 starts 33 wins ; won his last race at 14yrs. His wins ranged from 6f to 1 mile and a half and upon retirement was still eligible for non-winners of a other than. He is twenty now and still drives me nuts at feed time galloping around with the same easy action . Obviously cannot be named in the same breath as the wonderful stakes champs in the other posts however America is full of blue collar horses like him who fill the races day after day , God bless them all.

Federal League 172 starts,35-26-32 for $340,591. retired sound and is a rodeo horse and nice to ride too....
The sport and industry survive not only because of the champions that are remembered forever but also because of the losers that are so easy to forget...
