What do you all think of this broodmare prospect?

Postby vallygirl927 » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:01 pm

So, I have someone offering this mare to me, as a trade for my colt. She is a rescue mare, only 6 years old, and supposedly needs some groceries in her. I don't know her whole story, and I haven't even seen her yet, so I don't know how her conformation is, but I wanted some opinions as to her pedigree. She has blacktype winners in her females 3rd generation. Would anyone suggest taking this mare inexchange for giving her my colt?? He dam's side seems pretty good, but not too impressed with her sire, Flying Victor. What do you all think? Obviously, I have to take into account her health and conformation, but if that was ok, would she be worth trying to breed?

I don't see anything to recommend her as broodmare.

I agree - keep your colt.

Why? Because this mare is unraced (or did I miss something?). Her dam in unraced and her dam sold poorly at auction, as did her siblings. All of Princesse Lyphard's foals sold very poorly(for a fraction of stud fee and for a fraction of the sire's sales average) which makes me think they were not great looking.

Princesse Niner herself sold for over $200k as a yearling but was a disappointment on the track - winning once in 6 starts and earning $30k. Her half brother, Private Man, however, was a G2 SW of a quarter million dollars.

Now, when you get to the third dam, Lyphard's Princess - you get household name kind of horses. LP was a very nice filly and a half to Minneapple, etc. Her dam, Avum is a half to Lord Avie.

So, it's a strong family - but this branch seems to be weak. I'd steer clear because besides not being commercial, there isn't much that indicates she will even produce a useful runner. When you factor in her sire, it does not make her more attractive.

This is like encouraging gamblers with the notion that if they keep playing they may actuallt win the lottery. Please dont.

Thanks for the replies guys but this is an old post and I'm no longer interested in this mare. I found a filly with racing potential that strikes my interest more. I might post her on here for opinions, as soon as I get some more info and pictures on her. She's only 2 1/2 hours away, so as soon as I hear from the owner, I'll be picking up to head out to see her.

Thanks!!

You probably dredged this old post up just to start something and I'm in just that kind of mood 2nite.

What r u from Mars? Winstar and Someday Farms are most definitely professionals.
