It is an exciting time for horsemen(women) who have TB and/or AQHA race horses in Oklahoma. The slots will offer lucrative purses, especially for Native American owners. I am thinking of taking advantage of this. Do you know of any owners, trainers who would like to partner up on these NA purses? I am a 'small' time dreamer looking for a shot. let me know of any opportunities.
Blue ribbon Dows will have restricted races specifically for NA owners. I do not see why the Choctaw Nation would be any different. If you know of any trainers, owners, partnerships that can take advantage of these restricted races, let me know. I'll delve into this forum first before approaching others. Any other Okla. feedback? Thank you
Thunder, I didn't know about the new format for Native American restricted owners races. That's a great idea, and should also draw in new owners to the game. Since the Choctaw and Cherokee tribes own two tracks now, that could be quite a contest between them for bragging rights. About half the Oklahoma HBPA board are card-carrying members of some NA tribe, but I've not heard about this yet. No, I know nothing about potential partnerships. You might contact Blue Ribbon Downs to ask the staff of the racing office to keep an ear out for you, or have them put up a flyer on the bulletin board.

I'm 1/16 Indian. Do I qualify? If not, maybe I can establish my own tribe, declare sovereignty, escape property and income tax, and build my own racetrack without subsidizing taxpayers who paid for freeways, roads and other infrastruture supporting the track. Then I could hold race meets for non-tribal members who will pump their dollars into purses restricted to members of my new tribe.
Sounds like a great idea to me. Anyone else out there with 1/16 Indian blood?

You've got it wrong--I don't hate Indians, I think they got a raw deal. So did the Jews, Japanese, and the Irish--but they didn't run to Washington D.C. looking to capitalize on American Guilt. Government hand out programs usually serve only to assuage guilt, and to ensure that the 'victims' remain dependent on them and not on their own efforts.
End of soapbox.
