Avice Caro breeding suggestions?

Postby Busanda » Thu Jan 20, 2005 2:30 pm

Since my number one choice, Saarland has been declared full, any suggestions for a yearling sales foal??? Price range is under 30k and she's a very sturdy, hickory mare with a very bullish personality.

Busanda:

I'm not sure I understand your post the way the sentences are put together. Are you looking for a yearling by Caro instead of breeding your mare to Saarland because he's booked up?

I guess this is what happens when I do 4 things at once-- I'm asking for a breeding suggestion to my Caro mare, Avice Caro with the goal of selling the foal as a yearling. So i'm looking for a stallion under 30k that should be popular come Keeneland Sept.

It's probably too late to get to most of these, but here are a few that might meet your criteria.

Proud Citizen
Petionville
Officer
Malibu Moon
High Yield
Monarchos

Advice Caro by Caro is a nice bred mare. I checked the superior nicking patterns that were produced by Caro when bred to mares that traced to the (Prince Rose) sire lines. Here is the box score.

Caro was bred to 71 mares that traced to the sire line of (Prince Rose)
Caro produced 50 winners and 13 SW.

Try to find a stallion that is line-bred 4X4 or 3X4 or 3X4X4 to the (Prince Rose) sire line and hope that your mare Advice Caro will find a bloodline affinity or superior nick like her sire Caro did. Good Luck.

I was defintely thinking of both Officer and Monarchos. More Caro is never a bad thing in my opinion. Has doubling up on Caro been successful yet???

Inbreeding to Caro has had some good results. G3 stakes placed Marie De Bayeux 2x4, G3 stakes placed Arctic Boy 3x4, G3 SW (GER) Night Devil 2x3, G1 SW Golden Apples 4x3, G1 SW Starine (Breeders Cup Filly & Mare) 3x3, are some examples.

have 2 questions for upi:

1. What is your major reason for wanting to breed to a Caro stallion?
2. Why did you choose Saarland?

By the way, are you only considering Ky stallions?

Well my mare is by Caro and the idea of inbreeding to him intrigues me since I feel he's one of the few stallions who's genetic strength can shine through even as far back as four or five generations. Look at a lot of stallions with Caro blood somewhere and he really seems to come through.

I chose Saarland originally because it gave me some very interesting oppurtunities to inbreed to both Busanda who my mare is tail-female to and to Exclusive via Saarland's female family and through Exclusive Native on my mare's side. It also would give the chance for a large, two turn foal who many may pursue in the sales ring, especially since my mare's immediate family has been extremely hot and active as of late with Sky Mesa, Bernstein, etc. Proven and young sire family of the amazing La Troienne. Its also worth mentioning that Unbridled's most glorified son at stud and possibly his most talented son on the track as of yet, Unbridled's Song, is out of a Caro mare as well.

hi Busanda, you do have a very well bred Caro mare, a little age on her but a very intresting mare none the least. I havent looked at it hard but my first thoughts with her would be if you want an Unbridled, Broken Vow & the first horse that came to mind was Newfoundland. I'll give you more of an explantion of my thoughts later as these two just came to mind first as I was glancing at your mares pedigree.

Hi Busanda,

I really like a very nice Florida stallion named Halo's Image with this mare; not only is his dam grandsire In Reality the best nick of all with Caro (this nick being the basis of the Unbridled/Caro nick you have alluded to), but his sire (the all-time great stallion Halo) is also a profoundly successful nick with Caro (see the GIWs Megahertz, Helios Quercus, Vahorimix, Japanese Champion 3YO Filly Cheer's Grace, Japanese Derby winner Tayasu Tsuyoshi, Met Mile winner Yankee Victor, and the Argentenian Classic Winner Halo Ola).

Another very good thing about the match-up is that Halo's Image's grandsire Hail To Reason is an excellent nick with Exclusive Native and his son Affirmed.

And it is a fact of no small importance that the Acorn (GI), Test (GI), and Mother Goose (GI) Winning filly Jersey Girl combined Exclusive Native, Hail To Reason, and Valid Appeal 3x4x2 (these three would of course be combined 3x3x3 in the Halo's Image-Avice Caro match-up).

Besides being by the great Halo; Halo's Image traces to the same female line as the excellent Florida stallion Montbrook. His yearling average for '04 was nearly 4 times his stud fee (the median still being 2.4 times it); and his AEI/CI is a positive 1.63/1.47.

Not to mention that he has gotten the big horse (the versatile 3xGIW Southern Image).
