Galway Song 1985 - 2009

It is with great sadness we report the death of Galway Song tonight, age 24, of complications due to colic.

Galway has been with us for several years after being retired from a breeding farm in Kentucky. She was trained by Bill Mott and a successful race horse in her day including a stakes win and G1 and G2 stakes places at Aqueduct and Belmont. From the pedigree database:

Winnings: 41 Starts: 8 - 4 - 9, $369,310

At 2:
Won Princess Elizabeth S. (R) -L (75,000)
3rd Demoiselle S. -G1 (200,000)
3rd Astarita S. -G2 (100,000)

Possibly the most successful daughter of Irish Tower on the track, as a broodmare she produced champion Blizzard by Wild Again (Champion Imported Older Horse); 3 other blacktype progeny and a SW producing daughter also by Wild Again.

Galway was a classy bay mare who we will miss very much, as well as miss watching her gallop across the pasture with her stablemates.

So sorry to hear of Galway Song's passing.
We are so lucky to have them with us, even for short periods of time.
I'm sure she had a lovely, peaceful retirement with you and a dignified ending, which all our equine friends deserve.

My sincerest condolences on Galway Song's passing. I remember her well from her racing days, and I've been happy over the years to see her name appearing in pedigrees.

It is now very comforting to hear she had a good retirement as well. Such a mare!

I, too, remember this gal from her racing days. An extremely classy individual indeed, and while it's very sad to hear of her passing, it warms my heart to know she had a great and happy retirement. My condolences to you.

Laurie; I'm so sorry :cry:

How terrible for you and hubby. Thanks for your hugs and comfort on the foal watch side - I'm sorry it took me a while to get back to you. You can be assured she is running without any aches or pains that come with being a 24 retired broodmare/racehorse and is telling her other friends about the great retirement home she had. Perhaps she was called to look after Penelope. What a nice thought and picture that brings to mind! Take care kiddo! Cheryl
