I am sure (I had to) I missed the news that Larry Jones is retiring...
Why?

Personally I think this is a huge shame-from appearences he seems to be on the right track?

I think he announced last summer that last years two year olds would be his last group. I guess the Eight Belles pressure was very high at the time. I hope he stays around, because he has a great personality and has a ton of success with his horses.

Larry Jones has a lot of fans! Sure hope he enjoys some time off but decides to come back in a year or two.

I discussed Jones' Derby entries recently in a blog post: http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/scot/archive/2009/03/05/jonesing-for-the-roses.aspx

I heard someone, either a trainer or one of the owners Larry's had, say they expected the 'retirement' to last all of 90 days once he gets a taste of it. Might've been Porter. I think he took a lot of crap last year and maybe he'll change his mind. Seems like the more Larry works with his group, the more he might just make it a temporary break if we're reading between the lines.
