Naming Help

Postby Bid » Sun Mar 22, 2009 6:20 am

I'm going to jump in and ask for help too. Didn't know if I should include in the previous "coolest names" thread. Naming is the hardest part for us as we never agree. We have a colt:

Sire: Medicean
Dam: Dream Ticket
Dam Sire: Danzig

We were pretty excited about Mafaaz's win this week :D , and now we really need something good. Any help is appreciated.

Gaileo called the moons of Jupiter the 'Medicean Stars'. Of the four moons' names, only "Ganymede" is still available per the Jockety Club.

For what it's worth, Medicean Star is also available. Medicean *anything for that matter, it doesn't seem that it's been used in front of anything.

I've always wanted to name a horse Solar Latte because when you listen to that song "Drops of Jupiter" by Train, it's easy to swear up and down that you hear that in the lyrics of the song when he's really just saying something about 'the best soy latte'. I just think it's fun thinking about it in terms of the Milky Way and a latte and well, clearly it doesn't take a lot to amuse me.

Medicean Star sounds pretty good. We always try to find a powerful, one word name but that's tough to do since they are all taken. The few we had we used on horses that couldn't run. We keep saying that if the horse is good, he'll make the name. We never seem to have that problem :)
Heidilady-The lyrics story reminds me of the commercial where the 2 kids are trying to figure out the 80s song by the Clash. The finally agree it was "Rock the cat box" - pretty funny.

I loved that hymn about a bear named "Gladly" who had trouble with his vision. What was it now? Oh yes, "Gladly the cross I'd bear". Mmmm, about the name, how about "Mediteranean".

Borgia, Lorenzo, Signore and Gran Meastro are appropriate and appear to be available.

Forget all the celestial and cerebral names, name him The Medic.

Can't you just hear the call, " the front runners appear to be in dying and from out of nowhere, here comes The Medic"

I vote for Lucy's name . . . Ganymede.

That would be really funny!

This reminds me of a horse from many years ago (I believe it was a trotter or pacer) called Here Comes Santa Claus. The announcer had a lot of fun with that one, especially around the holidays.

Wasn't the Medici family the one that produced all those popes? How about White Smoke?

RE: "Ganymede" - (from Wikipedia): In the Iliad, the Achaean Diomedes is keen to capture the horses of Aeneas: "They are of the stock that great Jove gave to Tros in payment for his son Ganymede, and are the finest that live and move under the sun." (5.265ff)

So, how about "Ganymede's Ransom"
