while interesting, this is about a Quarter horse. Let's keep it Thoroughbred specific, I say.

Thanks Irene
Quarterhorses needed thoroughbreds to begin with so why not talk about it. Im sure that if we find out which thoroughbreds are in him we start a whole new topic.

Around fifteen or so years ago, an eighteen year old Thoroughbred was still competitive on small bush tracks in western Canada. I can't remember his name, but I think it had "Norman" in it. He got a ton of press due to his age and the fact he didn't run much as a youngster as the owner said that he wasn't very sound.

I believe Playing Politics won a race at age 16....I'd need to look it up to be sure. I know he raced for 15 years, and if I remember correctly, retired sound.

The horse in Western Canada was Norman Prince and he won an unbelievable number of races starting at age 3.

An old horse named Stonehenge (appropriate) was used as a lead pony between his races and won a race at Commodore Downs in 1978 at the age of 18.

They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Here's the pedigree, with the caveat its' from All Breeds. At least, according to the article, the sire line looks correct:

If memory serves, Three Bars wasn't known for always producing the soundest of horses.

Quickly, dam of Depth Charge, was also the dam of Count Fleet.

So I'm not the only one who remembers Commodore?

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.

I raced there in the summer of '75. I enjoyed the weather and the area so much that I went back a few times until the track went under.

I am still hoping to get out there sometime to see the new track - Presque Isle - but they race almost the exact same dates as Monmouth Park. So I won't be able to do it in the foreseeable future, unless I have something I want to race there.

It was a cozy little track and the Lake Erie region is delightful in the summer....

pleasant memories....
