Around fifteen or so years ago, an eighteen year old Thoroughbred was still competitive on small bush tracks in western Canada. I can't remember his name, but I think it had "Norman" in it. He got a ton of press due to his age and the fact he didn't run much as a youngster as the owner said that he wasn't very sound.

Here's the pedigree, with the caveat its' from All Breeds. At least, according to the article, the sire line looks correct:

If memory serves, Three Bars wasn't known for always producing the soundest of horses.
Quickly, dam of Depth Charge, was also the dam of Count Fleet.

They don't make 'em like that anymore.
So I'm not the only one who remembers Commodore?

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.

I raced there in the summer of '75. I enjoyed the weather and the area so much that I went back a few times until the track went under.
I am still hoping to get out there sometime to see the new track - Presque Isle - but they race almost the exact same dates as Monmouth Park. So I won't be able to do it in the foreseeable future, unless I have something I want to race there.
It was a cozy little track and the Lake Erie region is delightful in the summer....
pleasant memories....
