black type for overnight stakes

Postby ct2346 » Tue Jul 21, 2009 5:27 pm

Saratoga has carded a slew of overnight stakes this year. Typically they offer roughly 70k in purse. The question is...do/would they count as black type on a mare's page? I sure don't recognize them as established names, but with their purse, I would guess that they would qualify as black type? Thanks for any responses.

Yes they count for black type as long as the purse is at least $50,000.

When it comes right down to it there are no rules for Black Type. There is an sales industry body that establishes guidelines for BT but it if a sales company chooses to use much lower standards (and some do) there is no penalty. A sales company tries to make a catalogue page look as good as possible to maximize revenue, and if that means including really cheap BT then ususally they will do it.
