Ok I have done the impossible and finally finished building my farm but now I am struggling to find a name for it. [img] Any help with ideas or how you came up with yours would be greatly appreciated. I would like it to have a strong name if that makes sense or something to do with racing, thoroughbreds etc.
If you can tell me how to add a picture I will send it along also.

Are you near any natural feature like a creek, mountain, hill? I took my cat to a vet clinic on Misty Creek Farm--sure enough there's a creek running along the road leading up to the main building. Then there's Larking Hill down the road from me.

I don't have a farm, but I do run my horses in the name of a racing stable. I also use the same name as breeder too. I used a family name to come up with it....short of the 100 year old story....my great grandfather always wore aligator shoes, they called him "Gator" Big Daddy, (his son, my grandfather) had always said, "I ain't the Gator, but I'm the Gators Son." My father had a similar saying...so in the memory of the "gators" who've passed away, and all of the off spring of the "Original Gators" I run as Junior Gators Racing Stable.
Just a thought, I think it makes the whole thing mean a little more to me than just coming up with ABC Farm.
Oh Yeah....George Steinbrener runs as Kinsman Stable. It's a family thing too...His family comes from Kinsman Avenue in Cleveland Ohio.
Just a little something to show I'm smart and good looking!

My farm is named after my first thoroughbred. I bought him off the track in 1983 a gelded son of Seattle Slew. His papers did not come with him although I did see them when I bought him. Since his registered name was so horrible (I cant remember it exactly!) I wanted to find something else. We got him home to the boarding barn at 5 minutes until midnight that night from New York. 20 years later Five Til Midnight Farm came about.

Our farm has the Broad Run River as one of its borders. Because of the nature of the georgraphy (hills) the river RUNS after any kind of storm. Beside our farm, it is mainly rapids with one big drop (waterfall). So I named the farm River Run Farm. I would be VERY hesitant to use a family name or something like that in a farm name because of the impermanence factor. In fact, if I could sell my farm now I might be sorely tempted to move to Indiana, whose TB program far oustrips KY, in my opinion.
As for racing stables, it might be best to use your name. Regardless of how you wish to be perceived, your horse will ALWAYS be entered in its owner's name. That must be a LICENSED owner. They can ADD the racing stable to the entry but the horse will always run in a person's name.

That isn't actually true. If you look at the race results (or entries) from any track, you can see that many racehorses--including ours--run under the farm name.
Naming a farm
Since you are situated in Pennsylvania and the state has townships and boroughs, consider naming your farm using the geography and a feature of the topography. Examples: Scenery Hill Oaks, LLC, The Thoroughbred Farm of Bentleyville. North Strabane Meadows. etc.

They run under the "stable name" but also with a person's name. I talked with the KHRC folks about that - they will not allow a horse to run here under JUST a farm or stable name. So for example (forgive me I don't know your stable's name) your horse might run under "L. Berenson and Mystery Dog Stables." Under no circumstances will it run only under "Mystery Dog Stables." The person's name should be the licensed owner of the horse.

You may have talked to the KHRC folks, but we've raced here and elsewhere--under a farm name. Lots of people do it.
Here's a link to yesterday's 2nd race at Ellis--the meet currently running in Kentucky. Some of the owners listed are: Rock Castle Stable LLC, Running Grey Stable, and Too Salty Stables, Inc.

I can pull up dozens of examples of horses running under farm names from every day of racing. It happens all the time.
Highjacking my thread
Ok I just wanted help in naming my farm, the threads always seem to go in a different direction.
Again, I am just looking for people that might give me some thoughts on naming my farm. Sorry that this got off track.
