Subject: Stolen Horses
Just found out through Matt Thompson, Georgia Department of Agriculture,
that 10 quarter horses, all mares, were found in a pasture in Freehome,
Wyatt Road at Hwy 20, north of Alpharetta, at a private farm. The owner of
the farm has no idea who ownes the horses and called the Department of
Agriculture to help with the situation. The horses are in excellent
condition. Two of the mares, one palomino and one paint, have foals by
their sides that are also palomino and paint. There are also four bays, a
roan (red/white), and a chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. They are
believed to be stolen, and subsequently dumped on this lady's property.
Three of them are shod and someone has taken good care of them.
If you could forward this email around with your equine email list, maybe
someone knows something. Thank you, Matt Thompson can be reached on his
pager at 404-382-3238* , or email to his secretary Melinda Oliver at
[email protected] .

I'm not one to give the benefit of the doubt to humankind; however, in this case, this sounds to me like someone may have abandoned the horses (not stolen) because they may not be able to take care of them but wanted them to find good homes. I may be wrong, but it is hard to imagine a "thief" with a conscience.
In any event, best of luck in finding who they belong to and thanks for posting the info.
Well I'm a bit chagrined, I posted this on the Chronicle of the Horse forums, 15,000 registered viewers, and I was told that it was a case of neighbor's horses got out and wandered into another field, that it was a "non-issue" and my post was closed. Harumph. Oh, well, glad it worked out well, assuming COTH is right. Of course, they are ALWAYS right. Can't aruge, they closed the post. Anyone else heard about it?

stolen horses
here's one for everyone
how about dealing with an alleged 'equinerescue' that was a front for a stolen horse operation - the 'president' or thief paid his lawyer to change a court order so that he could 'rescue' my thoroughbreds from me by taking advantage of a situation - so now when I had to buy back my own horse for 2800 - they want me to pay for the lawyer (the rescuerer's third one by the way) as I hold all the owner ship documents and bills of sale - see the 'rescuerer' just sold my stallion that he castrated and did not want to have his insurance company pay for him so that they would be put out of business - but what has happened is that the state of nh has shut them down for cruelty, neglect and abandonment issues but they have just opened up under another name 'mary'sfreehorsefarm' - now tell me is this just good business or a change in semantics? sounds like a scam to me - lawyer changing court orders - like he never knew anything about it - did she do it on her own, dont' thinks so - or maybe that is what she got paid to do - think about it
semantics or good business?
