Here's one I worked with, he was a NY Bred

http://www.pedigreequery.com/judge+hewes

His name, Judge Hewes, he had a breathing problem, couldn't go past 6 furlongs, but was fast.
Though he was a gelding not a mare like you all are talking about.

Sometimes I wonder about these regions Sws that routinely beat up the locals and wonder what would happen if they tried the bigger venues. Hallowed Dreams comes to mind. But you can't argue with success. much better to keep the horse sound, rather than overreach (derby dreams) and ruin the horse

VINEMEISTER by Williamstown and o/o a Pleasant Colony dam is standing in WV and has a race record of 66/9/6/12 winning $420k

A lot of claiming races towards the end buy he ran his 66 races in 6 years and 6 months for an average of 10 races per year and retired sound.

Also he won the Storm Cat stakes in 2001 and the Salvator mile handy cap G-3 in 2003 & placed 2 nd in a G-2. A very nice looking stallion that throws very nice looking foals.

Ocean Flame was a SW - started over 140 times and earned close to half a million $. Fun horse!

My late lamented mare Our Majestic Cat was one of those caught without a chance to win again because of the fear of her being claimed. She was a half-sister to dual G1 winner Schossberg and other stakes horses and cost $410,000 at auction as a yearling. She won her maiden and her n1x race relatively quickly at 3, but couldn't quite make the n2x hurdle. She placed 3rd, 4th, or 5th in a lot of tries at the condition, yet they never dropped her to even $50K claiming, because they had too much money tied up in her. So she retired with a record of 23/2-4-4 and $96,571.

Of course, she became a broodmare and was bred to the 'hot' sales sires, without any consideration of which stallions would suit her best. For instance, Schossberg was by Broad Brush, but OMC never was sent to this obvious choice. In the end, I bought her for $5500 at Kee November, in foal to another hot young sire (with no runners at the time). As of this writing, all 5 of her foals of racing age are winners (one in Russia!) and two are still racing and, yes, they are claimers. Unfortunately I lost her this spring, along with her Include foal, this being the first breeding I controlled.

sorry about your loss pedigreeann. It's too bad that Broad Brush gets no love, as well as some of the other less fashionable, but good to outstanding sires. Hope your Include foal makes her memory a rich one.

Sorry to hear of your loss Ann. Our Majestic Cat was a beautiful and lovely mare, and she truly was 'Majestic'.

what does anyone think of the Northern Dance/Caro cross - I have a mare that I am going to send to Alphabet Soup - she is by Imperial Falcon - she is unraced (earned 130.00) but is a sweetheart and a great mom

my other mare is by Western Fame/Gone West and that with the Cozzene / cross

am I going to get hard knocking race horses? I did a True Nicks and they are both an A or better cross

thanks

Mini's Mom - look at your mare's female family. Look at her dam, her (half-)sisters, her second dam, her aunts and great-aunts, and their daughters. That is where you will find the best indication of whether you will get a hard-knocking type of runner from your mare, IMHO. You also find the best indication of which sires work best with this family. Go with what works!

Guess you didn't read too carefully. I lost the foal, as well. Emergency Caesarian was too late. Sold the weanling at Kee Nov, so I am now horse-less.

I don't think pedigreeann is happy about being horseless. It is always very hard for me when I lose one.

Thank you, Madelyn. This was my first mare, my first breeding and I was crushed to lose them.
