Last night's finally of American Dream Derby was really cool. I was so happy that Dieanna won the race. She gets to keep Aveanue of Knowlege. What other horses does she get? Does she get all of the horses that was shown in American Dream Derby?
I hope they come back with a season 2 of American Dream Derby.

I wondered about that too. Is it all the horses that ran in that race? I heard there will not be a season 2 as the ratings were not very good. I did hear that Avenue Of Knowledge will stay with the same trainer in CA (I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it!) and the rest are being shipped back to Chester County PA to run at Philly and Delaware w/ Scott Lake.
Here it is if I can type right!

My understanding from what Deana said was out of all the horses in the American Derby stable she could pick eight of those. She said she didn't have Avenueofknowledge on that list but was going to change it and put him on it. My problem was weren't they ALL geldings ? There isn't much value in geldings.

There isn't much value in those horses to begin with and only an idiot would think about breeding them. We're not talking cast off sons of Storm Cat here. The winner was an Avenue of Flags gelding ... oh yeah, he'd have made a hell of a stallion
Actually, at least in my opinion, that group is more valuable because they are geldings. As Sam said, I don't think there was much breeding potential there. As geldings, they may last forever around the tracks...
My fear is that at the end of the year the winner will be worse off than she was before... I think the prize money will get eaten up in training bills and the horses will prove themselves to be what we mostly suspect; bottom tier claimers. If she gets attached, she could spend all the money on training and end up with a stable full of suspect horses to try to keep in training.
If I were her, I would tell whoever is training them to put them where they belong, or even a class lower, preferably in the claiming ranks. Take the purse money and continue to run them at the competition until they get claimed. Actually, I could be the nightmare I always wanted to be... just run the horse down the competitions throat until they are forced to accept second or are willing to claim it to get us to stop.
Planned right, I'd be out of horses by mid-summer... and would financially be better off for it. Besides, I think she will soon find that having a stable full of horses isn't as much fun as it sounds. I cannot wait until they go a month without running because of sickness, injury, or lack of races. Wait until the entire stable comes down with a cough. OR, when races keep getting oversubscribed... OR...
I do wish her "Good Luck" however.
I won't miss the series, I'm not sure it did much for the industry or the "knowledge" base of the sport. But, maybe it did. Of course I only watched one episode and part of another... personally, I wish they had chosen people who had some clue... I mean.... It is KONA GOLD for gosh sakes (the only episode I watched).

I only watched 2 episodes but wasnt Deanna the one whose father had been a trainer in PA and she grew up at the track and thats why Scott Lake is an old family friend? Compared to the girl who was on the show because she wanted to learn to ride a horse! If Deanna is the one that I am thinking of then with her Dad's help she should be able to keep some of the $$ and get rid of the losers quickly.
She joked at the end of the show that the 250K should last her about a year....so I think she has a pretty good idea of what she is getting into. She seemed pretty bright on the show. I would hazzard a guess that some of them will be sold down the pike. I think there were 2 fillies in the barn. Lauren's Halo and I forget who the other one was.
Camohn, the other filly was Sharp As A Fox. (Was there one other, also?)
And I'm going to be the optimist here. If I had just won $250K and my pick of eight of 8 TBs, AND my Dad was a retired trainer (as Deanna said her Dad is), I'd be out to have the time of my life. I think Deanna and her Dad have been plotting and they already have a plan in place on what they will do. (She said in the finale' that she already had 8 stalls ready.) No, they may not make any money, but what a great experience this could be, and what a blast while it lasts.

So many pedigrees...so little time. (C)

One of the announcers on HRTV said the winner would keep the 8 horses that actually ran in that race.
During the post parade, they showed each horse's race record and earnings. None of the eight was more than a 4L condition. In fact, I'm not sure if there was a 3L in there. I don't know about the other 7 horses.
Deanna grew up around the business. I think she has a pretty good idea of what she's getting into. That's why I was rooting for her. If those horses had gone to Sue, I think they would have ended up as pasture pets at her place. But at least she'd take care of them. The rest of the people on the show probably would not have known what to do with them.

Okay... now that you (actually you-all... because I do have Southern roots), have provided much more enlightened information...
It sounds like the winner will do just fine on her own. In fact, a "jump-start" like this could lead to bigger and better things for her.
Was she the blonde who immediately chose Kona Gold in the episode I watched... if so, great, I thought it pretty obvious she knew who he was, while the others were clueless.
I retract much of what I said. I also look forward to seeing how she does.
Does someone have these critters in stable mail? Please keep us informed. Gracias!
