5.2 million dollar 2 year old

Postby Derby2004 » Tue Mar 01, 2005 12:04 pm

The record has been broken again. A Tale Of The Cat 2 year old was bought today for 5.2 mil. He has an impressive family line, so he might be worth it.

No unraced, untested horse is worth that much.

If he can manage to run in about 5 races and run 6 furlongs in under 1.08, he will be the next hot stallion!!

Shortly after Darley purchased that colt, they bought another by Grand Slam for 2.9M. Must be nice to have access to unlimited funds. :)

The interesting thing to me, though, is how many Outs and RNAs there are. So far it looks as though fewer than 50% of the 2 YOs catalogued are actually selling.

I noticed that also. I wanted to see how the Flame Throwers would go and the first one was OUT. I wonder why?

A good rule of thumb...

If at an auction, put down your hand if the guy bidding against you can print his own money.

5.2 mil? That's quite a gamble.

To petersd, That's a good one, Don. I seriously doubt I would be found sitting next to the principals of Darley or any other mega-force at my current level of involvement.

Don, I'm sending you a PM.

Also the Precise End babies did well. The way his and Trippis babies have been selling, makes me wonder what Alysweep will do. Any opinions?

For the owners of darley it is not an gamble, it just buisiness. Sometimes
ones loosses sometimes ones win.

I guess that's subjective. If you've got the money and you want to spend it, it may well be worth it to you. Some folks spend more than that for lawn ornaments...

So, hey, it may not be worth it to you, but it may well be worth it to the purchaser.

It is all relative, based on estimates of Sheik Mohammed's net worth, him buying a horse for 5 million is comparable to someone with a net worth of $200,000 buying a horse for $500. Pretty safe way to gamble. Bet hey, I got gas last week, so I am going to consider myself a part owner of the horse.

My mistake on previous post, should be fifty dollars, not $500.
