How close does the inbreeding have to be to qualify as Rasmussues Factor???
my partner has a very nice 2 YO colt that is:
5S X 7S X 6D TO Natalim
&
4D X 5D X 6D to Something Royal
I think his name is Cherokee Colours
And know he is a by Cherokees boy & o/o Perfect Colours.
I have not seen him p close but saw him flagging in his paddock.. he's big chestnut colt with three white stockings and has good movement and bone
Wish he was mine.

the 5S X 7S X 6D to NDs' dam Natalma is on top and bottom but does not quite make the 5 generation RF requirement you cite.
However, he's still a very nice colt and close is better than out of the ball park,
thanks again

Better he look good and run great than have a pedigree of a particular type.

We get excited about inbreeding to names in a pedigree. According to Dr. Phil's genetisis (sp) 1st cousins are only slightly more likely to share genes in common. 2nd cousins are no more likely to share common genes than two total strangers. I like to qualify this information by saying that when traits have been bred to, the chances of sharing common genes increases greatly and you can do that without inbreeding to an individual.

RF is defined as being within 5 generations according to this: http://www.chef-de-race.com/articles/ra ... factor.htm
R F Factor
Hi, and happy New Year to the Northern Hemisphere from Down Under.
I have the book "Breeding to Superior Mares" using the Russmussen Factor"
According to the book it is to 5 generations.
Take Spearmint for example, he is bred on the RF to Pocahontas, 5x5x5.
Having two sons of that great mare, STOCKWELL x 2, and his half brother KING TOM all in the 4th line of the pedigree.
Here in Australia, we have so much DANEHILL blood that we are getting the RF as close as 2 and 3 removes in a pedigree.
Just imagine what would happen to the breed if AI were allowed.
Cheers

RF INBREEDING
I mentioned before in my post that Spearmint was 5x5x5 to Pocahontas.
I bred Auralina to Dangerous, got a filly foal 2011 called Gate Crasher that has 5893 (I think that is right as I cannot find the sheets where I checked her out)lines of Pocahontas in her. I believe I went back some 17 generations to get all of the Pocahontas strain. Of course none of them qualify as a RF mating. Gate Crasher is on Pedigree Query.
Cheers.
