Injured Jockey

Postby griff » Sun Apr 01, 2012 7:13 am

A horse fell on Mid Atlantic jockey Grant Whitaker yesterday and broke his back. I don't know how serious the injury is but even a less sever broken back is probably going to play hell with his riding career.

It was a training accident, not a race.

I don't know the detail but I assume it was Charles Town as that was here he was spending most of his time.

Grant was the only jockey at CTown that would ride my gelding like the trainer instructed. A good guy.

I'm with you Joltman but I don't think you have a full recovery with a broken back..

Some broken backs are more sever than others but I think all are pretty much some degree of sever. Hope I'm wrong.

Dale is a good guy and I like him a lot..

By the way, he had short bit part in the movie Secretariat.

I pray that he is able to recover fully - that the fracture of his spine was not one involving damage to the neural chord.

It was at Laurel Park in the morning, a horse for a top trainer collapsed after the wire. He broke his nose and a vertabrae in his back, not sure how long he's out.

We need to keep him in our prayers.
