Hi, need suggestions for a small stallion for my Black Tie Affair mare - she has lost two foals due to her small birth canal, lack of help with the foaling (on her part) and too large stallions. She's in KY and I need a good price too. Thanks for your help.

you better throw in the ladder, or give the poor woman a real answer!

How about Hap. He's a lovely small stud in Indiana. I've seen him and bred a mare to him.

I had a Doberman taller than that. I will admit that he was a bit oversized.

I had a Maine Coon cat longer than that.

I'll second that. He is on the small side, so she should be able to handle one from him.

Birdstone. Small horse with some big runners.

Should be able to get to him for a decent price. Stallion register says he is 15.3 but I've seen him and I don't think he is that big. No need to tell you small horse equals low sales price so I hope you are breeding to race.

Thanks - absolutely breeding to race, she's had some nice babies but lost two due to large birth weight.

What about Jazil? I saw him recently at Shadwell. He is a nice horse in a fairly compact package.

Probably no better stallion on the small side than Northern Afleet.

I agree on Northern Afleet. Short but great muscle. He does have very soft pasterns though so your mare better be on the upright side there. I also don't think he has done all that great with Northern Dancer line mares.

The birth canal issue scares me a little with NA. Sure he is not tall but he throws babies with some bulk and I know next to nothing about birth canal issues but is heigth the real concern or is it the body mass of the foal?

Feedback from a breeding vet is probably a good idea.
