Hi Slew,
He gained a lot of respect today, that's for sure. But...that rider is as special as I'll Have Another. TJ

I agree, IHA has my total respect now and his jockey could be a bond trader as ice water flows in his veins.

a good triple crown series like this is like a heavyweight boxing match. just becuase someone comes and gets the upper hand on you in the first few rounds doesn't mean he's going to win the fight.
i can honestly say i new IHA was good. but i did not know he was that good. i can admit that. when they went 47 and 3 i thought there was no way that BM was going to lose. just a matter by how many he opens up by. but IHA caught him. keep in mind you couldn't throw a stone back to the 3rd place finisher.
I can say that i know that mike smith lost the race and I can tell you that because i know why he lost the race, he lost the race becuase he assumed just like everyone else did, as long as he didn't doa ntyhing stupid he could not lose. his horse was just that much better. that's why he babied him on the lead and just tried to hold on. and he was wrong.
if frankels connections do what they set out ot do and point him to the classic, this would easily be the most anticipated classic since the 04 one with ghostzapper, pleasantly perfect and azeri among others if not more so.
so now the first 2 rounds of the fight are over. we still have the belmont, the travers, most likely since they are both socal horses the goodwood and the BC classic. BM has been punched in the mouth and IHA got him but the fight is not over.
who is going to win? i don't know. but i remember in 2007 everyone right after the belmont was damning curlin as a fraud. look who got the last laugh.
IMHO, today was THE most important day in horse racing in probably the last 25 years. Why you ask? Because the first time since Easy Goer/Sunday Silence, we have a real live, rivalry.
. not 2 once in a generation mares on each side of the coast tap dancing around each ohter all year. not 2 horses playing around with and putting all their eggs in one basket at the end of the year to one of them not make it. This year, this is exactly how it's supposed to work. 2 top flight horses, punch each other in the mouth, then get back in the ring and do it again. and again. and again.
i have friends that could give a damn about horse racing calling me and telling me man i don't know anything about racing but i saw the preakness man that was a damn good race are they both running in the belmont? i learned something in the last 3 or 4 years. not to diminish zenyatta, and over the years i have greatly come to respect the mare4 and believe she could go toe to toe with the greats in horse racing i truly do. but no one cares how many races you win in a row when you aren't beating anyone. no one cares how many grade 1's you rack up when you are doing so while tap dancing around your main opponent
but this, this will bring em to the track right here. people want to see really good horses, get on the track and run against each other.
they will run at least 3 more times this year against each other. IHA will get his BM will get his. i could see BM going to the haskell but still they virtually have to meat in the goodwood baffert isn't going to play around and ship BM away from the track they are running the BC at.
not to take anything away from the other horses, in particular creative cause who 7 out of 10 years would be hauled as the next great thing in racing but BM and IHA are just a cut better . it would be a travesty if BM skipped the belmont. I think baffert and zayat know that. if IHA wins the Belmont he is going to have to earn it.

Hi bdw,
Start to prepare for the travesty...Bodemeister is going home to recoup, Baffert is sending another horse back for the Belmont. I'd guess the next time you see Bodemeister will be in the Travers, then the Haskell....but just guessing. TJ

OK there is no doubt that IHA(wish he had a better name) is a great horse. Esp. for that price tag.
Now, to all of you who are experts in this sport that are on the board, this is for you:
Is/Are there any horses out there that have been waiting and aiming just for the Belmont? IHA is a tough horse but you would think he is getting a bit tired? So, in your opinion, who is coming to the Belmont that could beat him?
I thought we had a better crop of "others" or the field that would show up, but they are left in the dust!
I am looking forward to all of your opinions! thanks
