Here's a "feel good" story from the Paragallo resc
I knew this story was going to be rather controversial when I posted it, but I took the chance anyway, especially since it was on the a major network news program and actually showed horse racing in a positive light. However, since it's gotten nothing but negative comments, I'll just go ahead and pull the link.

What? That the horse came in last place in her first race? Yes. But that wasn't what it's all about. I said it wasn't a Hollywood ending. We just have to hope that she improves as she gets more experience.
I personally was glad to see the part about Billy Turner and that he's still training. I wish it was at a higher level, but c'est la vie. Sometimes life is more about doing what you love and enjoy.

0 for 8 this year and 2 for 55 last year.
I'm not sure you can really say Billy Turner is still training.
And the people with this filly are asshats.
First attempt she freaks out and flips in the gate kicking the filly next to her causing them both to be scratched.
Second out she's beaten more than a pole.
The filly had already been nursed back to health when they got her.
THEY haven't accomplished shit with her.
They just use her to feed their sociopathic egos.
She should be a lawn ornament.
She has no business being on a racetrack.
And the media are mornons for thinking there's a good story here.

Once upon a time I was involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of a group of horses who had been neglected and left without food or clean water for an extended period of time. The younger animals were stunted. The one I had the most contact with was just plain squirrelly; broken to ride (not race, just to the point of being rideable) she was unreliable. At any moment she could begin bucking.
Racing or any other demanding discipline is the last thing I would do with a horse deprived of adequate nutrition.
People are crazy.

May 2013: Plan ahead now for the Phalaris/Teddy Centennial!
