three year olds

Postby Nancy T » Thu Aug 30, 2012 11:43 am

Looks like just about all the three year olds from the the classic races have retired now due to injuries. This is why racing is not much fun to follow anymore, just when you start to like one its no longer racing

years like this make it tough, beucase there really was talent this year. serious talent.

I've always maintained that the best years for racing are not when we get good horses, but when we get good horses by non super trainers. like 07 larry jones had hard spun, CN had street sense, Assumssen had curlin who i don't consider a super trainer at the big time level, sherrifs had tiago.

you give all of those to pletcher or O'neil and maybe 1 of them makes it past the travers.

I think the advent of the "super trainer" AT LEAST HERE, has run down the sport. Gai Waterhouse in Aussie is the aussie version of todd pletcher however she has horses running at thet op level well into their 4-5 year old year like More Joyous etc

Tagg had Nobiz like shobiz.

you give all of those to pletcher or O'neil and maybe 1 of them makes it past the travers. in fact that same year (07) Pletcher had cowtown cat, any given saturday, Ravel and Scat Daddy and only 2 of them made it to the derby, and one of them with basically 2 legs. That same year O'Neil had Cobalt Blue, Notional, Great Hunter and Liquidity and only 1 of the 4 made it to the derby and all but prob cobalt blue were grade 1 horses.

That year, baffert had one horse named Air Commander who was a half decent 3YO but nothing more.

I think the advent of the "super trainer" AT LEAST HERE, has run down the sport. Gai Waterhouse in Aussie is the aussie version of todd pletcher however her horses run good well into their 4-5 year old campaigns, i.e more joyous who often runs 2 weeks back to back still.

& Rapid Redux ran and WON 22 0r 23 races on one year and I have a mare that ran and finished 64 races in 6 years being bred to a stallion that ran 66 races and retired sound.

The foal will not make it to the derby, in fact, it will not even start until it is a long 3 YO.

When I but $15k into training a horse just to get it to the gate, I want it to run more than 8 t0 10 races.

Its a shame you think that the only horses racing worth following are 3 year olds in the Triple Crown races. You sure are missing a lot of really fantastic horses and races that way.
