Noticed on Pedigreequery that a horse, was "Vanned off" after a race.
Does this mean that he has broken down completely, and maybe saved or has died?
Here in OZ, we say floated off or away; meaning that hey have taken the horse to a vet.
If the horse has been humanely put down, we say destroyed.
Used to be that there was a canvas cover placed around the horse and he/she was shot if they had smashed a leg, etc.
You heard the report of the gun/rifle, but not the actual execution. Thank God that we have advanced since then.
Assistance greatfully appreciated.
Touchy.
Explaination of "Vanned OFF" please.

"There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of man." W.Churchill.
Look at the below chart for the Dec. 8, 2002 start for E Mail Pat - the footnotes say, "E MAIL PAT gave way after going a half then was pulled up in distress after the finish and was vanned off."

Then look at her career (click on results in the below link) - she had something like 29 of her 45 starts AFTER being vanned off:

But she didn't come back to win the next race. It was a while before she won again.
