Hurricane Sandy - Roll Call

Postby pfrsue » Tue Oct 30, 2012 9:00 am

It would be great if PQ folks who were in the path of the storm would sound off and let us all know that they're okay. Fingers and toes crossed for all of them!

I'm in northeast Phila., about a mile from Parx. We had some pretty ferocious winds all day yesterday and last night, two big trees down, including a 60-foot pine that was just gorgeous. Went down with entire root ball exposed. Power is out in half of Bensalem, only about a mile from where I am, but there is power at Parx. I took a quick spin through the backstretch about 2 hrs. ago and there was little damage. Just a few pieces of siding off a couple of barns and dorms. The track was sealed and looks ready for Friday's card.

My daughter attends George Washington University in D.C. She flew home Friday night to play in her alumni game Saturday. She was to red eye out Sunday night but her flight was cancelled and rescheduled for this Thursday. GWU cancelled all classes yesterday and today.

Greetings from Carlisle, PA. I understand the eye is a little west of us right now - lots of strong, damaging winds & flooding around here, but for us, just limbs down.

Glad to hear you're all doing okay! I still remember when Gloria hit in1985. I lived in Chester County, PA, and Horse crazy teen that I was, I spent two days helping bail out the barn where I took riding lessons. Scoop shovels, wheelbarrows, and what seemed like an endless amount of water to move.

That was a crazy experience, and I know Sandy packed even more of a wallop. I feel for the folks who are dealing with the brunt of that.

Postby mini's mom » Wed Oct 31, 2012 9:25 am

hi everyone:

storm damage was minimal here in nh - power outages were scattered but it did pour Monday night into Tuesday

all of our critters are fine - the gal that I board with got prepared - lots of filled buckets & tubs & her generator was gassed up - same with chain saws ect

glad the storm i s over - it could have been a lot worse

Hey guys! :)

Nice idea. Our house suffered no damage; seems to be well built, as every other house on the block had something...missing shingles, chimney caps, gutters down. Next door neighbor had TWO huge pines come down on his roof but he and his wife are OK. We lost 3-4 big branches (7-10 feet, fully leaved) that managed to just miss car, house, fence. VERY lucky. We were w/o power Monday-Friday and stayed with Andrew's mom, and now we are home and hosting my sister and husband and 3 kids, because they are in a part of Manhattan that was flooded and they still have no power or heat or water. My best friend's husbands studio burned flat...it has been very rough. But we are all safe. Love and concern for all.
