That is so NOT how Foolish Pleasure deserves to be remembered. If the foal crop of 1972 had a masculine analogue of Ruffian it was him. The boorish behavior of a couple of his connections in the aftermath of her breakdown probably compromised any chance the horse had at a decent career in the stud, not to mention how he's remembered now. This would not include his rider for the match race, Baeza, who iirc simply eased FP to the finish after Ruffian pulled up. (Had he not done so the owner could not have collected the purse and would have been livid.)

Both horses are well worthy of being memorialized in bronze for their accomplishments before and, in FP's case, after that day.

She sadly did not have any full siblings, but her dam, Shenanigans had some other nice half brothers and sisters. Laughter, a half sister, is seen in the pedigree of alot of good horses, and there was Buckfinder or Buckpasser, can't remember which one it is.

Buckfinder. Apart from Ruffian, Shenanigan's best track performer was her first foal, the great miler Icecapade (1969 x Nearctic). He was no slouch in the stud either. ;)

Totally agree. The intention was to address the comment about a statue of FP instead of Ruffian because he "beat" her. I never for a second considered that he "beat" her (although he did win the match race). You're spot on and both were wonderful horses.

Hey just bumping this because I saw that Zenyatta's 2013 colt, the full sibling to Zenyatta, hasn't been named and I wondered if he was in fact still with us and still pointing toward a racing career. It's a little weird to not be named at 2 as far into the year as October isn't it? Of course if he's anything like her and is still in training, he'd be such a late bloomer. They could be taking their time, but I thought it was worth asking if anybody's heard anything. It'd be a shame if he got hurt and won't make it to the track.

Zenyatt's full brother is at Ballydoyle with Aidan O'Brien and has been named De Coronado.
