Hi Arganaut,
I've never seen anything like that in my life. Bolted twice, the second time around a parked starting gate on the outside fence? The rider lost his irons after that one and still rode the heck out of him to the wire just missing? Amazing piece of determination, guts and horsemanship by his rider, Xavier Perez. TJ

Arga ,this is America anything can happen. The jock told the stewards that he went for a coffee! Now he was obviously much the best but do you bet him next time or not?

Looked like he wanted no part of the big black scary shadow on the track, the second bolt was at along the leading edge of the shadow--didn't look like he put a hoof on it. And of course he'd have to circle around the starting gate to avoid the horse eating thing on the track. Clearly a horse with strong opinions about his safety.

Great riding. And even better that no one was injured--either horse or rider.

Watch the hands of the jock the second time he vears right....The jock open his hand and send the horse there...look carefully.

Here's the story straight from the horses mouth:>) Xavier said when he lost his irons and Spicer Cub headed for the gate, he was ready to bail till he saw enough room to get through....so he took a handful of mane and hoped for the best. TJ

I would say watch that horse for his next start, and if he has blinkers bet the farm

The quickest way to go broke is to back horses that were "unlucky" in their previous start.

The price the horse is going to be wont reflect his chances in the race.
New opponents new race new day.

The horse was already wearing blinkers for that start.
