How would you breed this mare? Clever Song.....
Wanting advice on how to breed this mare. Her name is Clever Song by Unbridled's Song out of a Clever Trick mare. Wanting to breed in KY. Is she quality enough to breed for a race prospect? I was looking into Darby Dan and Spendthrifts breed secure options.... Thanks!!
Just a quick heads up, guys, Clever Song's progeny wasn't up to date in the database earlier, and she has more than 2 foals. It'll show up in a little bit, but for anybody that wants to know right now, the progeny additions include the following:
2004 - Joe Who's Song, a colt by Joe Who (BRZ).
2009 - Clever Bear, a gelding by Madraar.
2012 - Cleverandlight, a filly by Toolighttoquit who sired the other two foals she has in the database.
I point this out because it could affect some responses if she's a 14yo mare with 2 babies instead of 5.
I haven't had a chance to go over her pedigree enough to recommend anything, and I know there are others with more experience knowing just how much to spend on a stallion based on the mare's worth so I'm sure they'll weigh in soon. Although I'm not loving her siblings' produce records or the fact that she's unraced herself, a quick scan shows there's blacktype in her female family. Her 2005, 2006 foals are maiden winners. Her 2004, 2009 foals are unraced as far as I can tell. Clearly so is her yearling. If you're looking at Spendthrift and Darby Dan hypothetically, I'd check out their stallions' pages on http://www.stallionregister.com so you can try some hypomatings in the mean time.
