Breeding for Southern Hemisphere clients?

Postby springboro » Wed Jul 10, 2013 12:26 pm

Does anyone breed mares here in the US (in Kentucky) after our breeding season with the intent on marketing them to potential Australian buyers? I would like to pick someone's brain about a possibility!

Yes, Ive been doing that on and off for 25 years.

Short story...

Around August, 1987 or 1988 I bought a nice stakes winning mare from the family of REAL SHADAI. I wanted to sell her down under but had run out of time to fly her down for their breeding season. So I drove over to Ashford and asked if they would breed her beginning in September. Barry Simon looked at me as if I was half crazy (which I am, but that's beside the point). I explained the situation to him and he called back later in the week saying that STORM BIRD and WOODMAN were not available but that LOMOND and SEATTLE DANCER could be bred for half-price. So I bred the mare to Lomond. She quickly conceived and I shipped her down in December.

Every so often I remind the Ashford people that they should pay me commissions on all the SHT stud fees they've collected in the last 25 years!

Let me know how I can help you,
