After a six month's battle St. Nicholas Abbey lost the struggle for life.

Such a brave horse, so sad.

How does this type of colic happen? He was being watched all day, right?
He that lives in a glass house throws no stones.

Damn shame, what a wonderful horse but it is a similar scenario to the Barbaro nightmare, in a way! Lots of wonderful care but a boatload of stress and drugs that overwhelm an animal and eventually something's got to give. As soon as he was injured I feared the worst and even though the big money involved would guarantee intensive care of the best description I never held much hope for him/ The best horse that I ever owned died of a torsion/ irreversible twist. It's a nightmare for horse and owner. Life is not fair , he deserved better and was a great servant on the track.
