Postby madelyn » Sun Oct 02, 2016 11:06 am

I have a pal who needs a connection at Woodbine. Anyone got a recommendation / phone contact?

I don't know how chummy (with the trainer, or you) we need to be in order to make a recommendation, but I would consider Lorne Richards, who has trained at WO since 2001 after relocating from western Canada. I have followed his progress from afar for nearly two decades and I never notice any reason to knock him. (I have met him, but only once, and I'd followed his horses for several years prior to that)

Here's his up-to-the-minute record AT Woodbine during the past 15 years:

2016 TB 25 4 6 5 10 16 60 1.2680 135,407

2006 TB 60 14 12 12 22 23 63 1.6384 959,767
2005 TB 61 17 6 11 27 27 55 2.3852 610,193
2004 TB 70 20 12 10 28 28 60 2.1414 933,547
2003 TB 70 12 9 14 35 17 50 2.6400 648,262
2002 TB 74 21 15 7 31 28 58 2.0364 1,133,598
2001 TB 68 11 14 10 33 16 51 2.3970 544,121

His lifetime win percentage is a robust 22, and he seems quite patient about picking spots.

He's even 9-for-39 during the 2010's at Gulfstream (during the winters).

Never below 10% for a calendar year since he began training in 1980, a year in which he went 10-for-19.

He's a nice guy, who isn't overloaded with horses, and he is plenty accomplished at a challenging venue.

So at least give him consideration.
