She's back at Belmont as of tonight . . . fingers crossed. Sh'es been off over a year due to ankle sprain, then respiratory illness, then strained rear muscles.

Hi Toccet,
Glad she's back. I hope the time off will allow her to move forward uninterrupted in her training. Good Luck! TJ

Hi Toccet,
Wow, the training center did a great job having Modiste ready to breeze that quickly and well off the farm. Do you know where they had her? TJ

Yep--In Front Training in Ghent, or Hudson, NY. Depends on mailing address or physical.
Michael Schrader, who is very friendly, professional, and fun.
The place is for 2YO training as well as layoff and treatment. One barn for each. Actually a few mares and foals too. Spotless, 1/2 mile indoor track, walkers, I THINK an aquacizer . . .anyway, very impressive and efficient.
Glad it's paid off!

Modiste returns to the races this Sunday at Saratoga, race 12. We're hoping to drive up there from Westchester and see her...depending on how bad Hermine gets. Not fun driving into a bad storm at 11:00pm! Anyway, I'll be thrilled if she makes a good showing.

Hi Toccet,
Hope Hermine doesn't interfere with your plans. Looking forward to see her return to the races. Below are the pp's, safe trip to you and Modiste. TJ

Hi Guys,

Haven't commented on Modiste yet--- first of all we didn't drive up there because we were afraid of potential 50mph winds in Westchester, and while going to Saratoga would have had us escape the storm, my mother in law didn't want to go and we couldn't leave her alone in those conditions.
So of course storm turned into big nothing.
Anyway, she was progressively on her toes/edging into slight anxiety throughout paddock and warmup, and was hustled away from the gate after brushing another horse. Up front early and then tired to finish second to last. Jock eased up on her too.
So when we get the report from assistant trainer, he says that the jock blamed the long layoff, but also admitted that he "wanted to 'get' Franco after Franco almost dropped him at the start."
Is this a routine admission from a jock to trainer? I wouldn't imagine so. Also unclear what he's referring to; I guess the hustling early part.
Track rage.
OY!
Anyway she's fine and will try again soon.
Comments welcome. I know that I generally don't "get" people; but this is a new bit of decorative icing on the "people-behaving-badly" cake for me.

Hi Toccet,
Not that many riders take it as personally or would have the nerve to tell that to the trainer. Such rage could cause injury on the race track and trainers prefer level headed riders on their horses. Just plain stupid to "go after" another rider and horse, it's like cutting off your nose to spite your face. I thought Modiste ran a good race considering it was her first start over the turf and 14 months since her last race...being beaten less than 10 lengths means she belongs with these. Let's hope she stays healthy and should improve considerably 2nd race off the layoff. Would like to see Gary reach out for Castellano next time out. TJ

Ah, phooey. Still, better to take care of the horse and have her try again another day.

Saw her today. Quick visit, tried to feed her an apple; she wasn't hungry, and was much more interested in shoving her nostrils down onto my fingers.
In any case, per one of the asistant trainers, her foot is "fine" and she's ready to go.
We shall see!
