How to find out what a TB you bred and sold was named?

Postby jellac » Mon Apr 19, 2021 12:18 pm

Curious -

Is there any way to easily find out the JCA Registered name given a horse you sold as an unnamed 2YO, if and when, he receives JCA Registration?

Secondly, is there a way to be 'alerted' when the offspring of your mare are 'named' with JCA?

Well I think you could check it through equineline. I don't believe the JC has any kind of alert service..

I love the Equibase feature Dam’s Foal Search

If you leave the year blank, it will give you all of the foals in their system. Or, you can search by year.

Thanks, Vaponydoc! That link did the trick: my 2YO Sale Colt has been registered as "Singing Dixie" by his new owner.

Singing Dixie is by MY GOLDEN SONG(UNBRIDLED SONG) out of Um Melakeh (JUMP START). Now I can put him in my Stable Mail and get notified when he's entered, worked, etc.

I used this link with great success multiple times. But for some reason one of the named foals does not appear, only her oldest progeny opens right up to her Equibase page like it's the only one on record. I wonder if Equibase has changed this link a bit recently?

I believe there needs to be a "trigger" for a Thoroughbred to be entered into the Equibase database. Selling at auction, posting an official work time, or entry in a race are some triggers. I'm sure there are others.

A more direct way to access the full registration information of The Jockey Club may be via Equineline. To see naming status, search by year of birth and dam name here: http://www.equineline.com/Free-5X-Pedigree.cfm. That site should show every registered Thoroughbred, regardless of naming status.
