ANOTHER Baby Needs Your Prayer's & Good Thoughts

Postby BJ » Tue Jul 26, 2005 8:44 pm

A friend of mine, in Washinton State has a little 2 1/2 month old colt that got hurt. May have a fractured skull. He is being treated for the swelling/edema in the brain and he was doing well enough to get up and eat hay and nurse. But then the throat latch started swelling.

The Vet says if he can get through the night, with the new medication, that he has a good chance of surviving. The alternative isn't good. (She's been through this before with another baby and even with a tracheotomy and all the other $$thousands that were spent, the baby didn't survive.)

So please, everyone, keep this sweet little chestnut colt with a white strip down his face, whose "nickname" is Sugar Ray, in your prayers and good thoughts tonight.

Thanks everyone.

These little ones are so fragile, yet so precious.

I hope the news is good for your friend come morning, BJ.
Our prayers are with them tonight.

An assistant that was holding/bracing the colt while his feet were being trimmed, let him go before the colt had his feet under him and he fell hard on his head. I don't know how the other one (a filly last year) happened, but more and more it becomes clear how difficult it is to keep these babies safe from harm.

Anyway, he's a fighter...he just needs time to be on his side.

Oh my gosh, big prayers go out to that little guy and your friend. I've dealt with only one head injury before with a 4yo and they are so scary.

Guarded Update

Postby BJ » Wed Jul 27, 2005 2:27 pm

Little Sugar Ray is holding is own...his breathing is a *little* improved from last night. So he is *trying* to go in the right direction. He has stopped bleeding from the nostrils. He is holding his head at an angle...don't know if that is a swelling/balance issue, but he is nursing and getting to the water bucket. He is *aware* and clearly *trying* to be O.K. The biggest worries are infection, clotting and more swelling in the brain.

Keep your prayers and good thoughts going his way. They sure seem to be helping. Thanks everyone. The little guy hears YOU!

Praying for both you and your four-legged baby. Keep us posted.
