Sale Topper!

Postby [email protected] » Sat Aug 13, 2005 7:06 am

Just found out last evening, that the Rod & Lorraine Rodriquez' yearling filly CALL COLLECT (Fusaichi Pegasus - Collect Cal) topped the Saratoga Sale at 2 million! This was their first time to consign a horse to any sale. Lorraine is my neice by marriage. Pat

That's always so depressing. Makes you wonder what kind of future lies ahead for them. :(

Actually, the ones we were talking about were in the Saratoga Select Yearling sale at Fasig-Tipton. I went to the first night of the New York Breeder's sale and it was, well, *dismal. There just weren't real buyers there... certainly not enough for a catalog of 210 horses. If I was a consignor, I would have been really angry. By the time half of the horses went through on the first night, the chairs were mostly empty. I can only imagine what it looked like on the second night. For that kind of catalog, a sales company should have scared up a minimum of 600 registered approved buyers. The pass-outs must have FAR outnumbered the solds...

Since I was not able to make it after all...can anyone tell what the Wheelaway foals looked like? I think this was his first sale to offer any of his get.

Pete how did yours sell?

TB Lady - Hip 312 (I think) tonight is a Wheelaway filly who was quite striking. She had a very strong hind end and a good shoulder, nice energetic walk. The only knocks against her I could find was that her feet were rather small and a little narrow at the heel (a "mud foot" - much like the feet of a stakes-winning mare I know, so not a DQ).

The other filly I saw (only in the walking ring) looked quite similar - full bodied and well-sized.

Sorry, got interupted before actually posting this yesterday... I looked this morning and 312 went for $160K - she had reasonable amounts of black type on her page, though many of the stakes were restricted. I suspect most of that price was based on her appearance.
